Coffee Company Director Detained Over Alleged Counterfeit Production, 5 Tons of Raw Materials Seized

Authorities in Gia Lai province have raided two coffee production facilities, leading to the criminal detention of the business owner and the seizure of nearly 5 tons of raw materials suspected of being used to produce counterfeit coffee.

On October 26, the Gia Lai Provincial Police Department announced that they had inspected two coffee production facilities in the area and seized numerous raw materials suspected of being used to produce counterfeit coffee.

Simultaneously, the Investigation Police Agency detained the owner of the two facilities, Mr. Vo Minh Tung (47 years old, residing on Mac Dang Dung Street, Hoi Phu Ward), for further investigation.

Previously, on October 24, the Department of Investigation of Crimes related to Corruption, Economy, Smuggling, and Environment (PC03) of Gia Lai Provincial Police collaborated with relevant agencies to inspect two coffee production facilities of N.P Gia Lai Company, managed by Mr. Vo Minh Tung.

Facility 1 is located at 278 Truong Sa Road, Gao Commune, and Facility 2 at 96 Mac Dang Dung Road, Hoi Phu Ward. Authorities also conducted an emergency search of Mr. Tung’s residence and workplace.

During the inspection and search, authorities discovered and seized various exhibits, machinery, raw materials, and documents related to the production and sale of powdered coffee by N.P Gia Lai Company.

These included over 300 kg of finished coffee under the T.K brand, nearly 900 kg of green coffee beans, and almost 4,000 kg of roasted, ground, and mixed coffee powder awaiting packaging. Additionally, more than 4.5 tons of raw and auxiliary materials used in coffee production were found, including flavorings, shea butter, additives, soybeans, and coloring agents. Numerous machines were also seized, such as grinders, mixers, roasters, packaging machines, and date stampers.

Authorities have sent samples of the seized coffee powder for testing and recalled previously sold products from the market to establish a basis for legal action.

The Investigation Police Agency of Gia Lai Provincial Police is currently holding the seized evidence and continuing to verify and clarify the violations for appropriate handling.
