On October 27, during the 4th session of the 10th term of the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Council, a resolution was passed to halt the investment plan for the Phan Thiet Airport construction project—specifically, the civil aviation component under the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) contract.

According to the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee, in 2014, the former Binh Thuan Provincial People’s Committee initiated the investment project for the construction of Phan Thiet Airport’s civil aviation component under the BOT model. The project’s feasibility study report was approved, with a planned scale of a 4C-level airport and a total investment of nearly VND 1,694 billion.
In 2025, Phan Thiet Airport was included in the list of dual-use national defense facilities. However, nine years after the project’s launch and the signing of the BOT contract, only preparatory work and land clearance have been completed, with no construction yet initiated.
Under the new planning, Phan Thiet Airport is designated as a 4E-level domestic airport, serving both civilian and military purposes. It features a 3,050-meter runway and a passenger terminal with a capacity of 2 million passengers annually. Consequently, the previously approved 4C-level planning no longer aligns with the updated 4E specifications.

The Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee has submitted a report to the Provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board and Executive Board for consultation, forming the basis for the Provincial People’s Council to review and adopt this resolution.
