Recently, Drama-addict published an official announcement from Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the test results of a popular herbal product. The product, “Hong Thai Formula 2 Herbal Inhaler” (registration number G 308/62), manufactured by Hong Thai Commerce Herbal Manufacturing, was found to be substandard after testing at the Thai Medical Science Bureau.
Laboratory results revealed microbial contamination, specifically failing the Total Aerobic Microbial Count, Total Combined Yeasts and Mould Count, and detecting the presence of Clostridium spp., a potentially harmful bacterium.
According to the 2021 Thai Ministry of Public Health’s notification on purity standards and critical quality attributes for registered or notified herbal products, these findings classify Hong Thai Formula 2 as a “non-compliant herbal product.”
Under Section 65 of the Herbal Product Act B.E. 2562 (2019), the Thai FDA issued a public notice to protect consumers, advising against purchasing or using this product.
Thai law stipulates that manufacturers of non-compliant herbal products face up to 2 years’ imprisonment and a fine of 200,000 baht (approximately $5,700). Distributors may face up to 6 months’ imprisonment, a fine of 50,000 baht (approximately $1,400), or both.
The Thai FDA is pursuing legal action against the manufacturer. The notice was signed by Witit Srisuphanakul, Deputy Secretary-General of the Thai FDA, on behalf of the Secretary-General, on October 20, 2025.
The FDA also urges consumers to exercise caution when purchasing or using herbal products, especially inhalers or herbal medicines of unknown origin, to prevent potential health risks.
