This marks a significant milestone in advancing Vietnam’s digital connectivity, with VNPT being one of the leading telecommunications operators in the country.
Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy equipment from its AirScale portfolio, a flagship product line of the Finnish technology company. These devices are powered by ReefShark chip technology, renowned for energy efficiency, promising premium connectivity, low latency, and enhanced network capacity, while optimizing power consumption.
Beyond equipment provision, the agreement encompasses comprehensive network management services to ensure optimal system performance and reliability.
This initiative is expected to significantly enhance mobile coverage quality, particularly in border areas and key socio-economic centers. The infrastructure upgrade will enable citizens and businesses across various provinces to access telecommunications and digital transformation services more effectively, directly supporting Vietnam’s broader economic growth and digital inclusion goals.
For Nokia, this contract reaffirms its strong commitment to the Vietnamese market. Notably, in 2024, Nokia chose Vietnam as the production hub for its AirScale equipment. This hub currently supplies products to both domestic and international markets, strengthening regional supply chains and creating new economic opportunities.
Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Huynh Quang Liem, CEO of VNPT, stated: “Expanding our partnership with Nokia is a crucial step in enhancing Vietnam’s telecommunications and digital infrastructure, reaffirming our commitment to meeting the growing digital connectivity and service needs of citizens, businesses, and the government. With Nokia’s advanced technology, we aim to deliver world-class services and support Vietnam’s digital transformation objectives.”
Nokia’s representative, Mr. Hiro Miura, Head of Southeast Asia Market, emphasized: “We are proud to deepen our partnership with VNPT and contribute to Vietnam’s digital future. Our cutting-edge technology delivers superior performance, enabling VNPT to provide faster, more reliable connectivity, especially in critical border areas and major socio-economic centers. This expansion will improve access to essential digital services for citizens and businesses, driving economic growth and enhancing quality of life.”

The agreement between VNPT and Nokia was announced as part of the signing ceremony for cooperation documents between the two countries’ enterprises, held in Helsinki (Finland) on the afternoon of October 21 (local time). This event took place during General Secretary To Lam’s official visit to Finland, witnessed by high-level leaders of both nations.
At the same event, Nokia also signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with the Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel). The agreement with Viettel focuses on digital transformation cooperation, developing next-generation telecommunications infrastructure (5G/6G, Open RAN, AI, Data Center). Signing agreements with both of Vietnam’s largest telecom operators underscores the Finnish giant’s deep penetration strategy in Vietnam’s digital infrastructure market.

This extensive collaboration also highlights Nokia’s strategic focus in the new era. For many Vietnamese consumers, Nokia was once a dominant force in the mobile phone market, known for its ultra-durable products. However, following a pivotal restructuring and the sale of its mobile device division to Microsoft in 2014, Nokia has completely transformed.
Today’s Nokia is a pure B2B technology conglomerate, focusing on telecommunications equipment, 5G core networks, cloud technology, and competing directly with giants like Ericsson and Huawei for market share in providing infrastructure to global telecom operators. The Nokia phone brand still present in today’s consumer market is licensed by HMD Global (Finland).
