On the morning of October 28th, reports from several localities in the Mekong Delta, including Vinh Long and Can Tho City, indicate a significant drop in the price of fresh coconuts compared to previous months.

Ms. Nguyen My Linh, owner of a coconut purchasing depot in Cang Long commune (Vinh Long province), shared: “The price of green Siamese coconuts ranges from VND 40,000 to 45,000 per dozen (12 fruits). Pineapples are much cheaper, with fruits weighing 1.4 kg or more priced at VND 50,000 per dozen; those weighing less than 1.4 kg are purchased at VND 30,000 per dozen. For green Siamese coconuts, the depot must carefully select them upon purchase, as they are supplied to companies.”

Fresh coconuts in the garden are priced at less than VND 4,000 per fruit, but at retail points, they range from VND 12,000 to 13,000 per fruit.

At retail points, this decline is also evident. Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, owner of a beverage shop in Hung Phu ward (Can Tho City), mentioned that currently, the price of fresh coconuts purchased from traders is VND 90,000 per dozen.

“In the middle of the year, fresh coconuts were highly valued, with traders selling them to me for VND 110,000 to 120,000 per dozen, and sometimes even calculating a dozen as 10 fruits instead of 12. Presently, due to the rainy season and reduced demand for coconut water, the price of fresh coconuts has decreased,” said Mr. Phuc.

In stark contrast to the situation with fresh coconuts, dried coconuts are experiencing a sharp price increase. Many traders reported that in September, the price of dried coconuts peaked at VND 220,000 to 230,000 per dozen, yielding high profits for farmers. Currently, although the price of dried coconuts has decreased, it remains at VND 150,000 to 160,000 per dozen, double that of the same period in 2024.

Dried coconuts are currently priced high.

Traders attribute this to stable exports and, particularly, increased domestic demand to supply confectionery and jam production facilities in preparation for the 2026 Lunar New Year. As a result, dried coconuts are becoming a “star” among agricultural products in the Mekong Delta.
