Floodwaters Submerge Over 66,800 Homes in Da Nang as Heavy Rain Shows No Signs of Letting Up

By the morning of October 29th, devastating floods had submerged over 66,800 homes in Da Nang. Water levels in the city's rivers remained at a critical level 3 alert, with heavy rainfall showing no signs of abating.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Nang City reported that 66,813 households have been affected by severe flooding due to heavy rainfall.

Ten communes have been completely isolated: Go Noi, Thuong Duc, Vu Gia, Ha Nha, Dai Loc, Nong Son, Que Phuoc, Duy Xuyen, Thu Bon, and Phu Thuan.

Twenty-nine communes and wards have been severely flooded, including Hai Van, Hoa Xuan, Hoa Tien, Lien Chieu, Ngu Hanh Son, Hoa Vang, Ba Na; Thanh My, Phuoc Tra; Viet An, Son Cam Ha; Xuan Phu, Thang An, Thang Dien, Thang Binh, Thang Phu, Dong Duong, Quang Phu, Tay Ho, Phu Ninh; Dien Ban Tay, Duy Xuyen, Nam Phuoc, Phuong An Thang, Hoi An, Hoi An Tay, Hoi An Dong, Duy Nghia, Dien Ban, and Dien Ban Bac.

Emergency teams have successfully evacuated 15,886 residents to safety.

As of the morning of October 29th, the floods have tragically claimed 2 lives, left 3 missing, and injured 11 people.

Thirteen houses have collapsed, 44 have been damaged, thousands of livestock have perished, and numerous roads have been severely damaged by landslides.

Currently, water levels in the upper reaches of the Vu Gia – Thu Bon rivers are rising again, while downstream levels remain above the third alert threshold (BĐ3). At 1 AM on October 29th, the Vu Gia River at Ai Nghia reached 10.17 meters (1.17 meters above BĐ3); the Thu Bon River at Nong Son reached 16.6 meters (1.6 meters above BĐ3); at Giao Thuy, 9.43 meters (0.62 meters above BĐ3); at Cau Lau, 5.2 meters (1.2 meters above BĐ3); and at Hoi An, 3.11 meters (1.11 meters above BĐ3).

Forecasts indicate that flooding in the Vu Gia – Thu Bon rivers will continue to rise and reach peak levels within the next 24 hours. The Vu Gia River at Ai Nghia is expected to peak at 10.25 meters (1.25 meters above BĐ3), while the Thu Bon River at Cau Lau will fluctuate between 1.2 and 1.35 meters above BĐ3.
