On October 28, 2025, Vietjet and the University of Oxford unveiled the results of their groundbreaking Net Zero research initiative for global aviation, as part of General Secretary To Lam’s official visit to the United Kingdom.
Led by Professor Myles Allen, Director of the Oxford Net Zero Centre, the project focuses on Geological Balance Fuel (GBF) – an aviation fuel whose carbon emissions are offset by long-term CO₂ storage in deep geological formations. Initial findings suggest GBF could pave a realistic path to achieving net-zero emissions for the global aviation industry by mid-century.

This initiative stands out for its cost-effectiveness and minimal disruption to existing global fuel supply systems, avoiding increased costs for current energy and fuel industries.
The project also strengthens educational and high-quality workforce collaboration between Vietnam and the UK, through research and postdoctoral programs at Oxford Net Zero.
