Coffee Prices Soar During Harvest Season
For the January 2026 benchmark contract, Robusta prices climbed by $145 per ton, reaching $4,610 per ton. Meanwhile, the December 2025 Arabica contract saw a $60 per ton increase, settling at $8,610 per ton.
Today’s coffee prices are expected to rebound strongly from the previous level of 115,700 VND/kg before the London market opens.
The anticipated increase of approximately 2,000 VND/kg is a welcome boost for farmers as they prepare for the new harvest.
Coffee prices have tripled from 40,000 VND/kg to an average of 120,000 VND/kg, sparking a global race to expand coffee cultivation areas and increase yields, not just in Vietnam but worldwide.

Rush to Invest in Coffee
The latest development comes from Hoang Anh Gia Lai JSC, chaired by Mr. Doan Nguyen Duc (known as Bầu Đức), which announced the completion of planting 2,000 hectares of Arabica coffee and plans to plant an additional 1,000 hectares this year.
Bầu Đức also intends to plant 3,500 hectares of coffee annually in the following years, aiming to reach a total of 10,000 hectares by the end of 2027 in Vietnam and Laos, with a 70% Arabica and 30% Robusta crop ratio.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, as of September this year, Vietnam’s coffee cultivation area stands at 764,400 hectares, an increase of 16,600 hectares (2.3%) compared to the same period last year.
Not only has the area expanded, but the introduction of new varieties and improved care practices have also led to higher yields. For the 2025-2026 crop year, forecasts indicate a 120,000-ton increase in Vietnam’s coffee production.
The Bold Vision of Bầu Đức
Hoàng Anh Gia Lai Joint Stock Company plans to list the shares of Hung Thang Loi LLC in 2026 and those of Gia Suc Lo Pang JSC in 2027. Concurrently, the company aims to expand its total coffee cultivation area to 10,000 hectares and its durian cultivation area to 3,000 hectares by the end of 2027.
