On October 30, during his official visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, General Secretary To Lam witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Quang Ninh Province, Sun Group, and renowned aviation partners.
Accordingly, Quang Ninh Province and Sun Group signed an MoU with Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited (HAECO) and VinaCapital Holdings to explore the development of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Van Don Airport. The parties also exchanged MoUs in areas such as workforce development, high technology, and green transition in Vietnam.
Mr. Tran Minh Son, Vice Chairman of Sun Group’s Board of Directors, representing Sun PhuQuoc Airways, signs the MoU with partners.
The MoU reflects the shared interest of all parties in discussing the development of aviation services in Quang Ninh Province, establishing an MRO facility at Van Don International Airport, and focusing on innovation and sustainable development. It identifies potential areas of cooperation, particularly in high-tech applications and green transition strategies.
The parties discussed collaboration opportunities in aviation MRO services, including digitization, automation, technology transfer, and skill development. They also explored informal partnerships with educational institutions to promote STEM education, research, technical skill enhancement, and green capabilities. Additionally, they shared insights on workforce development, empowering youth, and integrating advanced technologies like AI, IoT, and sustainable materials. The discussions also covered technology transfer roadmaps and joint innovation initiatives to support decarbonization and circular economy principles in aviation.
The signing and exchange of the MoU highlight the shared interest of reputable international partners with Sun Group in Vietnam’s high-potential aviation sector. This contributes to the effective implementation of the Politburo’s resolutions on science, technology, and innovation, fostering deeper international integration and private sector development.
Van Don International Airport, Vietnam’s first private airport built by Sun Group, was completed in under two years and meets 4E standards. It serves as a gateway for international visitors to Vietnam’s Northeast region. The airport can accommodate large aircraft such as B777, B747, and A350, a capability typically found only at major international airports like Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, and Noi Bai.
On November 1, Van Don Airport launched its first charter flight to Shenzhen, China. By 2026, the airport will connect to additional international destinations within the region.
Previously, Sun Group launched Sun PhuQuoc Airways, Vietnam’s first “resort aviation” model, connecting Phu Quoc to domestic and global destinations. On November 1, the airline’s inaugural flights took off from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to “Pearl Island.” Initially, the airline will operate routes between Phu Quoc, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City, offering more travel options for tourists and residents.
