Alongside the wedding festivities, there’s growing interest in the business ventures of Do Ha’s in-laws. Notably, her father-in-law, Nguyen Viet Hai, Chairman of Son Hai Group, has become a focal point of public curiosity.

Prominent Leadership and Controlling Ownership

Born in 1966 in Hoa Trach commune, Bo Trach district (now part of Quang Tri province), Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Economics. From 1984 to 1993, he served as an officer in the Quang Binh Provincial Police and retired under Decree 176 in 1994. He then established his own business, and in 1998, Son Hai Group was founded.

According to the National Business Registration Portal, Son Hai Group, officially known as Son Hai Group Joint Stock Company, was established on April 13, 1998. Its headquarters are located at 117 Huu Nghi Street, Nam Ly Ward, Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province, specializing in residential construction.

The company currently has four legal representatives: Nguyen Viet Hai, Le Thanh Huong, Nguyen Thanh Hai, and Ngo Minh Ngoc.

As of May 2024, the group’s registered capital is nearly 2.366 trillion VND, comprising 2.055 trillion VND in cash and over 311 billion VND in land use rights.

The shareholders include Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai, who contributed 2.3638 trillion VND (99.9% of the capital), and Mr. Le Thanh Huong, who contributed 2.1 billion VND (nearly 0.1%).

By the end of May 2024, Son Hai Group increased its registered capital to over 4.478 trillion VND. Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai contributed 4.476 trillion VND, while Mr. Le Thanh Huong contributed 2.1 billion VND. All contributions were made in cash.

Significant Contributions to the Community

Beyond business, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai is actively involved in local politics and social initiatives. Since 2016, he has served as a member of the Quang Binh Provincial People’s Council for two terms (2016-2021 and 2021-2026).

In 2024, Son Hai Group invested 40 billion VND to build a resettlement area and donated cattle to impoverished communities in Quang Tri Province, helping them avoid floods and landslides. The new resettlement area is named “Son Hai Friendship Village.”

The village is equipped with essential infrastructure, including roads, drainage systems, water supply, electricity, a primary school, kindergarten, community center, and 56 newly built sturdy stilt houses designed to respect the traditions of the Van Kieu-Pa Co ethnic groups.

Additionally, Son Hai Group has reclaimed 7.59 hectares of terraced rice fields and constructed roads connecting the resettlement area to the fields, facilitating agricultural production. Each household received a cow, a TV, and access to a Wi-Fi network, along with three years of rice support.

In September, Son Hai Group completed a 3.24 km village road in Quang Tri Province, equivalent in quality to a highway, at a total investment of nearly 12 billion VND, fully funded by the group.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai shared that this project reflects Son Hai Group’s commitment and responsibility to Quang Tri Province. It also underscores the group’s reputation in infrastructure development and its community-centric business philosophy.

Pioneering 10-Year Warranty in Vietnam’s Construction Industry

Over its 27-year history, Son Hai Group has established itself as a leader in transportation construction, undertaking numerous highway projects such as Cam Lo – Lao Bao, Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet, and Mai Son – National Highway 45.

The group is renowned for its quality guarantees and warranties on its projects.

In 2014, Son Hai Group offered a 5-year warranty for two packages (Package 10 and Package 14) on the National Highway 1A expansion project in Quang Binh Province, a significant improvement over the standard 2-year warranty. The group even erected warranty signs along the roads for public oversight.

In 2015, Son Hai committed to completely redoing any sections of the road that exceeded permissible rutting limits, rather than resorting to less effective repairs. This led authorities to extend the warranty period for National Highway 1A to 4 years.

By 2022, Son Hai Group had extended its warranty to 10 years for several major projects, including Mai Son – National Highway 45, Nghi Son – Dien Chau, and Nha Trang – Cam Lam. The state incurs no costs during this warranty period.

Son Hai’s warranty covers road smoothness, rutting, cracking, and joint integrity. The warranty remains valid regardless of traffic volume, vehicle weight, or weather conditions. Warranty signs are publicly displayed along the roads for transparency.

In early 2024, Son Hai Group proposed extending the warranty period from 2 to 10 years for the XL02 package of the Van Phong – Nha Trang Expressway project, which the group pledged to complete at least one year ahead of schedule.

To date, Son Hai remains the only company in Vietnam offering a 10-year warranty on its road projects. Since the beginning of 2025, the group has secured four major infrastructure contracts worth over 2.6 trillion VND.

Previously known for his media discretion, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai has gained widespread admiration following his appearance at his son’s wedding. His dignified yet approachable demeanor left a lasting impression.
