On November 1st, as reported by Tien Phong newspaper, numerous potholes have reappeared on the bridge connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh over the past few days.

A resident from Dau Tieng commune, Ho Chi Minh City, reported that large craters have emerged on the road leading to Binh Tay Bridge from Provincial Road 744 (Ho Chi Minh City) to Tay Ninh Province. Due to limited visibility at night, many motorcyclists have fallen after hitting these potholes.

The road and bridge connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh, valued at nearly 1 trillion VND, officially opened to traffic in late December 2022. Tay Ninh Province is responsible for the “Upgrading and Expanding Dat Set – Ben Cuoi Road” project, spanning over 12 km with a budget exceeding 510 billion VND.

Ho Chi Minh City constructed the connecting road and bridge, a Grade II traffic project with a 6-lane scale, a cross-section of 25.5m, safety strips, sidewalks, barriers, and railings. The project spans over 800 meters, including a 377.7m section in Ho Chi Minh City and a 92.2m section in Tay Ninh.

The bridge, which opened to traffic two and a half years ago, was officially named in early May 2025. It combines the names of the two provinces (former Binh Duong and Tay Ninh) to become Binh Tay Bridge.

Previously, Tien Phong newspaper reported that the bridge, after only six months of use, had deteriorated, with potholes and cracks causing public concern about its quality. Following the report, the construction unit promptly repaired and patched the issues. However, similar problems have resurfaced.

The road and bridge project is managed by the Binh Duong Investment and Construction Project Management Board. The winning contractor is a joint venture between Dai Thien Truong Joint Stock Company and Construction and Investment Joint Stock Company 492. Currently, relevant units and localities are conducting on-site surveys and repairing damaged road sections.
