By the end of Q3 2025, Vietnam boasts over 600 green buildings with a combined floor area of nearly 17 million square meters. This figure far exceeds the nation’s previous targets of 80 green buildings by 2025 and 160 by 2030.

Simultaneously, Vietnam has over 183,000 electric cars and 974 electric buses in operation, totaling approximately 183,974 electric vehicles.

Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City lead the charge, with other localities such as Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, and Da Nang also witnessing significant growth.

This encouraging news highlights Vietnam’s commitment to sustainability, as emphasized by Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh during the plenary session of the Vietnam Green Building & Green Transport Week 2025 on October 29.

According to the Deputy Minister, developing green buildings and green transportation is not only a global imperative but also a critical component of the green economy.

Green buildings play a pivotal role in construction and urban development, reducing energy, water, and material consumption while cutting CO2 emissions. They also promote recycled materials, enhance land use efficiency, and improve living environments.

Green transportation is a cornerstone of the green economy within the infrastructure-energy-transportation system. It encompasses clean vehicles like electric cars and biofuel vehicles, as well as sustainable infrastructure such as metro systems, BRTs, electrified railways, charging stations, and smart transportation networks.

Globally, governments are implementing stricter policies to reduce carbon emissions, particularly in green transportation (broadly, green logistics) and green buildings.

In 2024, the European Commission (EC), citing data from the World Economic Forum (WEF), revealed that green buildings present a $1.8 trillion market opportunity by 2030 through carbon emission reduction. Implementing CO2 mitigation strategies like green energy and material recycling can yield economic benefits and enhance sustainability in green buildings.
