The Ministry of Construction has recently approved the detailed regional and maritime port development plan for Ba Ria – Vung Tau (formerly known as Vung Tau) for the period 2021-2030, with a vision extending to 2050. A notable highlight is the planning of the Vung Tau International Passenger Port, designed to accommodate modern cruise ships with a capacity of up to 225,000 GT.

According to the approval, the Vung Tau International Passenger Port will feature one port and two passenger terminals, with a total length of 840 meters (excluding additional terminals). Upon completion, the port will be capable of hosting the world’s largest cruise ships and serving between 1.39 and 1.5 million passengers annually.

Previously, the former province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau held numerous meetings to discuss investment proposals for the international passenger port, a project deemed to be of iconic and international stature for the region. It is expected to become the largest passenger port in the southern region, significantly enhancing maritime tourism and driving economic growth in services and logistics.

According to the consulting firm’s report, the location of the international passenger port is adjacent to the Bai Truoc Cable Car Station complex (Vung Tau Ward). In addition to the main terminal area, the project includes auxiliary service facilities, commercial and entertainment zones, and welcoming spaces for domestic and international tourists.

The consulting consortium presented 11 design options, featuring both straight and curved access bridges, which will create a unique architectural focal point along the coastline. The total estimated investment for each option ranges from 1.333 trillion VND to over 8 trillion VND, depending on scale and construction materials.
