The Berlin Civil Court where the trial took place.
According to An Ninh Thu Do, the trial commenced on the morning of November 4, 2025 (German time) at the Civil Court of the District Court Region II in Berlin. Notably, this marks Vingroup’s first defamation lawsuit in an international market.
The plaintiffs in the case are VinFast (German branch) and Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong, Chairman of Vingroup. The defendant is Mr. Le Trung Khoa, editor-in-chief of thoibao.de.
The lawsuit was filed under an expedited procedure. The plaintiffs requested the German court to issue an injunction compelling the defendant to immediately cease all defamatory actions and publications that tarnish the reputation and integrity of the company.
Specifically, the lawsuit alleges that Mr. Le Trung Khoa made baseless and severe accusations against Vingroup and its leadership. These claims include labeling Vingroup as a “mafia conglomerate,” accusing it of “terrorizing Le Trung Khoa,” “bombing the thoibao.de office,” and alleging that “VinFast bribed Le Trung Khoa.”
According to the plaintiffs, these statements were repeatedly published by Mr. Khoa on thoibao.de and other social media platforms without any factual basis or evidence, with the intent to undermine Vingroup’s reputation.
During the November 4 morning session, as reported by An Ninh Thu Do, Mr. Le Trung Khoa failed to provide any arguments or evidence to substantiate his claims that Vingroup is a “mafia,” engaged in “bombing,” or committed “assassination and bribery.”
Previously, when the court requested the defendant to submit a defense statement with evidence, Mr. Khoa and his legal counsel did not comply with the procedure.
At the hearing, the German court proposed a mediation between the parties. However, the plaintiffs declined this offer.
The refusal stems from the fact that Mr. Le Trung Khoa and thoibao.de’s deliberate dissemination of false information has severely damaged the honor, reputation, and business operations of Vingroup, VinFast, and Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong. This conduct contradicts the fundamental principle of freedom of speech, which prohibits infringing on the lawful rights and interests of others.
The court’s decision is expected to be announced during the afternoon session on the same day (evening of November 4, early morning of November 5, Vietnam time).
