In the preliminary nominations, Vietnam stands out with Vinhomes Green Paradise, a groundbreaking coastal metropolis in Can Gio, developed under the ESG++ model, setting a new international standard.
The Wonders of Tomorrow Are Being Built Today
Unlike traditional rankings for “most livable cities” or “smart cities,” New7Wonders’ “7 Urban Wonders of the Future” celebrates the iconic creations of the 21st century.
According to New7Wonders, the selection criteria include sustainable planning, green technology, smart governance, social connectivity, and global contribution.
Bernard Weber, Founder and President of New7Wonders, shared: “With the ‘7 Urban Wonders of the Future’, we are expanding our mission from honoring human heritage to celebrating our vision. The wonders of tomorrow are being built today—through the choices, creativity, and courage of urban planning pioneers.”

Nominations for “Urban Wonders of the Future” as of November 4, 2025
Among the nominees are contemporary symbols of smart, sustainable cities: Tianjin Eco-City (China), The Sustainable City (Dubai), Oxagon (Saudi Arabia), Lusail City (Qatar), and Belmont (USA).
Among these, Vietnam shines with Vinhomes Green Paradise, a prime example of the ESG++ model, harmonizing nature, humanity, and technology for comprehensive urban sustainability.
Vinhomes Green Paradise: A National Icon and Opportunity for a New Miracle
Experts agree that Vietnam’s inclusion with Vinhomes Green Paradise is a natural step toward a greener future. The project fully meets—and often exceeds—New7Wonders’ criteria for an “urban wonder of the future.”
“Vinhomes Green Paradise defines absolute quality living, from services to emotions, setting a new standard for smart urban living with advanced technology. It’s a new way of life for humanity,” said Architect Khuong Van Muoi, former Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Architects.
Spanning 2,870 hectares, Vinhomes Green Paradise backs onto the UNESCO-recognized Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve and faces the Pacific Ocean. This unique location makes it a one-of-a-kind green coastal urban model, expanding development space toward the sea while driving sustainable growth for Ho Chi Minh City, akin to Dubai or Singapore.
The project is planned with a philosophy centered on people and nature, balancing development and conservation. It operates entirely on renewable energy, integrates green transportation, smart infrastructure, and a closed ecological system.
During construction, advanced land reclamation technology, eco-friendly materials, and strict ecological control processes minimize environmental impact, meeting “Smart Infrastructure” standards.
The ESG++ model, an enhanced version of traditional ESG, adds Regeneration and Resilience, setting the project apart and surpassing New7Wonders’ “Sustainability Vision” criteria.
“This ‘ESG passport’ not only opens doors for economic integration but also commits to the future, the environment, and generations to come,” said Bui Van Doanh, Director of the Vietnam Real Estate Research Institute.
More than a real estate megaproject, Vinhomes Green Paradise is positioned as a global destination city, blending Vietnamese heritage with international living standards.
The project features iconic landmarks, including the 800-hectare Paradise Lagoon—the world’s largest artificial lake; a 108-story tower in the global top 10; the 7-hectare Green Wave Theater, likened to a “Vietnamese Sydney Opera House”; two 18-hole golf courses; the 5-star Landmark Harbour; a 7,000-room resort complex, Vietnam’s largest; and a 122-hectare entertainment hub. These attractions are expected to draw 40 million visitors annually, cementing its status as a “global destination city” and meeting the “Global Impact” criterion.
Additionally, Vingroup prioritizes community with schools, hospitals, diverse theme parks, and Vin New Horizon, a pioneering senior living model, creating a balanced, humane, and fulfilling environment for all generations.
This combination helps Vinhomes Green Paradise exceed many New7Wonders criteria, making it not just a “livable city,” but also a “connected city” and an “inspiring city,” where planning, technology, and human values are equally prioritized.
While the results are pending, Vinhomes Green Paradise’s nomination already marks a new milestone in Vietnam’s modern, sustainable, and humane urban development. From Can Gio’s natural heritage, an “urban wonder of the future” is emerging, symbolizing Vietnamese intelligence, global vision, and the drive to create a better world.
“This is more than a competition—it’s a declaration of Vietnam’s vision and belief in the future it’s building for itself,” said Tran Tuong Huy, Vice Director of the Social Tourism Research Institute.

How is Ho Chi Minh City’s Largest Land Reclamation Urban Area Being Constructed?
The 2,870-hectare reclaimed urban area in Cần Giờ is nearly complete. Construction of low-rise residential areas, a golf course, theater, and entertainment zones within this mega-reclaimed city will commence by year-end. Phase two, focusing on road infrastructure and technical facilities, is slated to begin in mid-2026.
