Chengdu City Police (Sichuan Province, China) have successfully dismantled a counterfeit TV production and distribution ring, targeting major brands like Huawei and Xiaomi. The total value of the fake goods exceeds 35 million Chinese yuan (approximately 120 billion Vietnamese dong).

According to China News Service, the operation was launched after a prominent domestic tech company filed a complaint with the Chengdu Police Bureau in October 2024. Numerous customers reported purchasing counterfeit TVs from e-commerce platforms, despite the products bearing the company’s brand. Investigations revealed that these stores were unauthorized, and all products sold were counterfeit.

Upon receiving the case, the Food, Drug, and Environmental Crime Investigation Team of the Chengdu Police Bureau collaborated with Longquan Yi District security forces. After months of investigation, they uncovered a highly organized criminal network involved in the production, assembly, and nationwide distribution of counterfeit goods.

On October 21st, over 70 officers were mobilized in a 9-day crackdown across Shaanxi and Guangdong provinces. The operation resulted in the arrest of 28 suspects, the shutdown of 5 production and storage facilities, and the seizure of 302 counterfeit LCD TVs along with 31,000 brand labels and packaging materials.

Initial investigations revealed that since July 2022, the ringleader, surnamed Lu, and accomplices had been purchasing loose components to assemble counterfeit Huawei and Xiaomi LCD TVs for online sale. From February 2023, they rented houses as production workshops and hotel rooms to establish an e-commerce team, opening a total of 83 online stores on various platforms to distribute counterfeit products across China.

The criminal group’s total illicit revenue is estimated to exceed 35 million Chinese yuan. All 28 suspects have been detained, and the case is under further investigation in accordance with the law.

Chinese authorities emphasized that this case highlights the sophistication and complexity of high-tech counterfeit operations, urging consumers to exercise caution when purchasing electronics online, especially branded products with unusually low prices.
