October 2025 Industrial Production Sustains Robust Growth Momentum

According to the Statistics Bureau, the industrial production index in October 2025 is estimated to rise by 2.4% compared to the previous month and by 10.8% year-on-year. Over the first ten months of 2025, the industrial production index has increased by 9.2% compared to the same period last year.

The Industrial Production Index (IIP) for October is estimated to increase by 2.4% compared to the previous month and by 10.8% compared to the same period last year. Specifically, the manufacturing sector grew by 11.4% year-on-year; mining increased by 3.1%; electricity production and distribution rose by 11.0%; and water supply, waste management, and wastewater treatment activities climbed by 12.2%.

For the first ten months of 2025, the IIP is estimated to increase by 9.2% compared to the same period in 2024 (which saw an 8.3% increase). Within this, the manufacturing sector grew by 10.5% (compared to 9.5% in 2024), contributing 8.5 percentage points to the overall increase; water supply, waste management, and wastewater treatment activities rose by 9.0% (compared to 10.0% in 2024), contributing 0.1 percentage points; electricity production and distribution increased by 6.8% (compared to 10.4% in 2024), contributing 0.6 percentage points; and the mining sector decreased by 0.1% (compared to a 7.1% decrease in 2024), reducing the overall increase by 0.01 percentage points.

The IIP for the first ten months of 2025 in several key secondary industries increased compared to the same period last year: Motor vehicle production rose by 23.5%; rubber and plastic product manufacturing increased by 17.3%; non-metallic mineral product manufacturing grew by 16.8%; metal production climbed by 13.8%; apparel manufacturing increased by 13.3%; pre-fabricated metal product manufacturing (excluding machinery and equipment) rose by 12.8%; leather and related product manufacturing grew by 11.2%; food processing increased by 10.4%; furniture and paper product manufacturing both rose by 10.3%; wood processing and wooden product manufacturing increased by 10.2%; and electronic, computer, and optical product manufacturing grew by 8.2%.

Conversely, some industries saw lower growth or declines: Machinery and equipment manufacturing not classified elsewhere increased by 3.9%; hard coal and brown coal mining rose by 3.4%; and crude oil and natural gas extraction decreased by 4.1%.

The IIP for the first ten months of 2025 increased in all 34 localities compared to the same period last year. Several localities experienced significant IIP growth due to strong performance in manufacturing, electricity production, and distribution. Conversely, some localities saw lower IIP growth due to weaker performance in manufacturing, mining, and electricity production and distribution.

Several key industrial products saw increases in the first ten months of 2025 compared to the same period last year: Automobiles increased by 42.2%; televisions by 19.6%; rolled steel by 17.7%; cement and aquaculture feed both by 14.6%; casual wear by 14.3%; NPK compound fertilizer by 13.6%; leather footwear by 12.8%; refined sugar by 12.6%; petroleum products by 11.3%; and chemical paints by 10.2%. Conversely, some products decreased: Natural gas in gaseous form declined by 7.5%; fabrics made from synthetic fibers by 2.3%; and crude oil extraction by 0.9%.

The number of employees working in industrial enterprises as of October 1, 2025, increased by 0.8% compared to the previous month and by 3.6% compared to the same period last year. Specifically, state-owned enterprises saw a 0.1% increase compared to the previous month and a 2.6% increase year-on-year; foreign-invested enterprises increased by 0.9% and 4.1%, respectively; and non-state enterprises rose by 1.0% and 2.2%, respectively.

By industry, the number of employees in mining remained unchanged compared to the previous month but increased by 1.6% year-on-year; manufacturing saw a 0.9% monthly increase and a 3.7% annual increase; electricity, gas, hot water, steam, and air conditioning production and distribution increased by 0.1% and 5.6%, respectively; and water supply, waste management, and wastewater treatment activities rose by 0.3% and 1.3%, respectively.

The industrial production index in August and the first eight months of 2025 witnessed positive growth across all 34 localities, with the manufacturing sector remaining the key driver.
