Recently, the State Council of Professors’ official website has released the list of candidates for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor (Prof., Assoc. Prof.) for 2025 across 26 disciplines and interdisciplinary fields. The results indicate that the professorship application of billionaire Ho Xuan Nang (Phenikaa University) has been approved.

However, Mr. Ho Xuan Nang will only officially be recognized as meeting the Professor standards for the 2025 review period once the Minister and Chairman of the State Council of Professors, Nguyen Kim Son, signs the decision. This development is likely to add one of Vietnam’s wealthiest individuals to the country’s already limited roster of professors.

The candidate lists for the military science and security science disciplines remain confidential and have not been publicly disclosed.

These results were finalized during the 4th session of the State Council of Professors for the 2024-2029 term, held on November 2nd.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Xuan Nang meets Professor standards

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Xuan Nang serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Vicostone, a subsidiary of Phenikaa Group, and is among the wealthiest individuals on Vietnam’s stock market.

Born in 1964 in Ninh Binh (formerly part of Nam Dinh), Mr. Nang graduated from Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 1986 with a degree in Internal Combustion Engines. Immediately after graduation, he pursued a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, which he completed in 1992 at the same university.

He also holds a distance learning degree in foreign languages from Hanoi University of Foreign Language Education (now the University of Foreign Languages under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi), obtained in 1988, and a supplementary certificate in Russian for Ph.D. students from Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Dr. Ho Xuan Nang joined the Communist Party in 1999.

Since 2017, he has been a lecturer and Chairman of the School Council at Phenikaa University, while also serving as the Director of the Phenikaa Research and Technology Institute.

Mr. Nang has also served as a guest lecturer at the Vietnam Maritime University, guided Ph.D. students at the Vietnam Institute of Agricultural Engineering, supervised graduation projects and served on graduation boards for students at the University of Transport and Communications and the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, and taught at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Throughout his career, Mr. Nang has held various leadership positions, including Chairman and CEO of A&A Green Phoenix Group, Chairman of Vicostone, Director of Vinaconex High-Grade Stone Cladding Company, and CEO of Vicostone.

In the business world, Mr. Ho Xuan Nang is known by the nickname “Jewish Nang,” a moniker he earned in 2014 following the high-profile acquisition of Vinaconex High-Grade Stone Cladding Company (the predecessor of Vicostone) by A&A Green Phoenix Group (Phenikaa).

He is also referred to as the “tycoon” of Vietnam’s stone cladding industry.

By the end of 2024, Mr. Ho Xuan Nang was listed among the wealthiest individuals on Vietnam’s stock market, with an estimated net worth of nearly 9,000 billion VND.
