The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has issued an official dispatch extending the operation of the Binh Quoi River Ferry Terminal (Binh Quoi Ferry).
To meet the travel needs of residents and help alleviate traffic congestion in the area, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has approved the proposal for the Binh Quoi Ward People’s Committee and Thu Duc Ward People’s Committee to continue extending the operation of the Binh Quoi River Ferry Terminal (Binh Quoi Ferry), managed by Binh Quoi Ferry Transport and Trading Service Company Limited. The extension period is 12 months.

For long-term operations, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has directed the Binh Quoi Ward People’s Committee and Thu Duc Ward People’s Committee to collaborate with the Departments of Construction, Finance, Planning and Architecture, Agriculture and Environment, and other relevant agencies to review procedures related to planning, land, and construction. They will guide Binh Quoi Ferry Transport and Trading Service Company Limited to comply with regulations.
Previously, the Binh Quoi Ferry, a waterway connecting the former Binh Thanh District and the former Thu Duc City, had been temporarily suspended since July 2024.
The suspension has caused significant inconvenience for local residents, forcing them to take longer detours, resulting in increased travel time and costs. Many residents have expressed their desire for the ferry to resume operations soon, making travel between the two areas more convenient as before.
In September 2025, a representative of Binh Quoi Ferry Transport and Trading Service Company Limited stated that the company had proactively followed guidance from authorities to resolve issues and resume ferry operations. However, the biggest challenge currently lies in legal procedures related to land.
As the ferry serves essential travel needs and is not for commercial or tourism purposes, the company has submitted a petition urging relevant agencies to consider and support their case.
