According to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the Ben Thanh – Can Gio urban railway project, prepared by Vinspeed High-Speed Railway Investment and Development JSC, the metro line connecting downtown Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio spans approximately 53 km, with a total investment of over VND 85.65 trillion (USD 3.3 billion).
Construction is slated to begin by the end of this year, with equipment installation and testing scheduled from Q4/2025 to Q3/2027. Commercial operations are expected to commence in Q3/2028. The entire line features double tracks with a standard gauge of 1,435 mm, designed for a maximum speed of 350 km/h, reducing travel time from Ben Thanh Station to Can Gio’s center to just over 13 minutes.
As per the developer’s plan, the Ben Thanh – Can Gio metro line starts at Ben Thanh Station (directly connecting to Metro Line 1 – Ben Thanh to Suoi Tien) and ends at the Can Gio Reclaimed Urban Area. The route includes 1 depot in Can Gio and 2 maintenance centers in Tan Thuan (former District 7) and Can Gio. The project spans 8 wards and communes: Ben Thanh, Xom Chieu, Tan Thuan, Tan My, Nha Be, Binh Khanh, An Thoi Dong, and Can Gio, covering a total land area of nearly 318 hectares.
The Ben Thanh – Can Gio metro line is divided into two phases for station development. Phase 1 includes the construction of 2 main stations: Ben Thanh and Can Gio. Phase 2 will add 4 more stations: Tan Thuan, Tan My, Nha Be, and Binh Khanh (based on demand). In Phase 2, two types of trains will operate: express trains running non-stop from start to finish, and local trains stopping at all stations.

The Ben Thanh – Can Gio metro line starts at Ben Thanh Station (directly connecting to Metro Line 1 – Ben Thanh to Suoi Tien) and ends at the Can Gio Reclaimed Urban Area.
The entire line is expected to operate 5 trains, each consisting of 8 cars, with a total capacity of 600 passengers, all seated. Trains will run every 20 minutes, uniformly across all time frames, operating continuously from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, seven days a week.
According to Vinspeed, this new transportation infrastructure project will directly employ approximately 400 workers once operational.

Notably, the Ben Thanh – Can Gio line is not the only railway project Vingroup is pursuing through Vinspeed. Concurrently, the company has also prepared an EIA report for the Hanoi – Quang Ninh railway project, expected to receive investment approval in Q4/2025.
The Hanoi – Quang Ninh railway spans approximately 120 km, starting at the National Exhibition Center (Co Loa), Dong Anh District, Hanoi, and ending at the Forest Park Area, Tuan Chau Ward, Quang Ninh Province. As proposed by VinSpeed, the project’s total investment is nearly VND 153 trillion (USD 5.3 billion).
