Critical Decision on Cat Lai and Phu My 2 Bridges Connecting Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City

During the 6th Session of the Dong Nai Provincial People’s Council, 10th tenure (2021-2026), held on November 10, delegates approved a resolution designating the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee as the authorized agency to execute the Phu My 2 Bridge project under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

Additionally, the Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee was unanimously appointed to oversee the Cat Lai Bridge and Long Hung Bridge (Dong Nai 2) projects, also under the PPP framework.

The council also adopted a resolution endorsing the allocation of three additional bridge projects connecting Dong Nai Province and Ho Chi Minh City, utilizing public investment funds.

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee was tasked with the Thanh Hoi 2 Bridge and Tan An Bridge (Tan An – Lac An) projects.

The Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee will undertake the Tan Hien Bridge (Tan Hien – Thuong Tan) project.

These transportation initiatives aim to progressively complete the Southeast Region’s transportation network, enhance connectivity between neighboring localities, and support economic and social development in both regions.

Alongside public investment projects, private investors are encouraged to participate in PPP projects to accelerate infrastructure development.

The Cat Lai Bridge design includes 8 lanes (6 for motorized vehicles and 2 for non-motorized vehicles), with a design speed of 80 km/h. The starting point is on Nguyen Thi Dinh Street (400 meters from the My Thuy intersection, Cat Lai Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), and the endpoint connects to the Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway (Dai Phuoc Commune, Dong Nai Province).

The total project length is 11.642 km, including a 3 km bridge, a 972-meter approach road in Ho Chi Minh City, and a 7.6 km road section in Dong Nai.

Construction is scheduled from 2025 to 2028, with an estimated investment of VND 20,524 billion, funded through PPP and budgets from both provinces.

The Long Hung Bridge and its approach roads will feature a 6-lane urban arterial road with a design speed of 80 km/h. The project spans nearly 12 km, including a 2.3 km bridge, with an estimated investment of VND 11,758 billion, covering land clearance costs.

The Phu My 2 Bridge project includes a 4.6 km bridge and a 15 km urban arterial road with a design speed of 80 km/h. The estimated investment is VND 16,445 billion.
