Vosco Shipping Company has announced its plan to sell the bulk carrier Vosco Unity and potentially sell or lease back 1-3 Supramax-sized vessels. The company’s general meeting also approved its development strategy, adding two new business lines: shipbuilding and floating structures (3011) and sports and recreational boat building (3012).
According to the company’s website, the Vosco Unity has a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 53,552 and was built in Japan in 2004. It is among the top 10 dry bulk carriers in Vosco’s fleet, which includes vessels like Vosco Sunlight, Vosco Prosper, Vosco Jubilant, and Vosco Starlight.
Vosco operates a dedicated dry bulk and bulk carrier fleet with a DWT range of 13,316 to 57,903. This core fleet, primarily consisting of Supramax and Handysize vessels, was mostly built in Japanese shipyards and operates globally.
During the meeting, Chairman Hoàng Long and CEO Nguyễn Quang Minh provided further insights into the proposals presented to shareholders.
Regarding the expansion into shipbuilding, a resource-intensive industry requiring specific manpower, berths, and infrastructure, the company representatives highlighted its potential. This move will enable Vosco to take control of ship repairs, streamline its ship management processes, and enhance business stability. It also opens opportunities to offer additional services to clients.
These new business lines will be incorporated into the company’s charter, reflecting its commitment to diversifying operations, leveraging maritime technical expertise and manpower, and gradually expanding into the marine transportation support industry.
Vosco’s leadership also mentioned exploring suitable options, including potential joint ventures, to leverage partner resources.
Additionally, the company is restructuring its fleet to rejuvenate and optimize operations. This requires strong financial capabilities, and the planned vessel disposals will contribute to strengthening Vosco’s financial position.

The sale of Vosco Unity will commence immediately after the meeting. The company is also considering disposing of underperforming vessels.
In 2025, two container ships have shown excellent performance, leading Vosco to retain them until replacements can be acquired. The company is also determined to invest in product tankers and container ships at the right time.
Vosco currently operates two container ships, Fortune Freighter (9,102 DWT) and Fortune Navigator (8,649 DWT), built in Japan and launched in 1997 and 1998, respectively.

In Q3 2025, Vosco reported its best results in over a year, primarily due to a VND 99 billion gain from the sale of Vosco Star. Net profit reached nearly VND 132 billion, compared to a loss of over VND 14 billion in the same period last year.
However, the nine-month net profit was only over VND 88 billion, significantly lower than the VND 344 billion recorded in the same period last year, when the company earned VND 400 billion from the sale of Dai Minh. Moreover, several ships undergoing extended repairs this year, including Vosco Sky, Vosco Unity, Vosco Starlight, Dai Thanh, Lucky Star, and Fortune Freighter, have resulted in revenue loss while still incurring daily vessel costs.
