Amid the intense “final sprint” atmosphere at the Long Thanh International Airport construction site, on November 11th, Mr. Le Hoang Minh, Chairman of the Board of Members of Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), led a delegation to inspect and oversee progress on Component Project 2 – Air Traffic Management Facilities.

During the meeting, Chairman Le Hoang Minh emphasized that Component Project 2 is a critical link in the national air traffic control system. He urged all units to strictly adhere to the project timeline while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency throughout the construction process.

The air traffic control tower, a key component of the project, has completed its structural construction and is now in the equipment installation and finalization phase. Supporting facilities such as the technical building, VIP lounge, power station, and ATC area landscaping are also progressing rapidly. The Long Thanh Project Management Board and Southern Air Traffic Management Company are actively collaborating with foreign contractors to install specialized air traffic management equipment, ensuring readiness for the technical flight scheduled for December 15, 2025.

Chairman of VATM’s Board of Directors instructed the investor and related units to strengthen coordination with Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) in the handover and integration of technical infrastructure, particularly the tunnel system and fiber optic cables connecting CNS/MET stations. This ensures seamless data transmission stability and safety upon the project’s operational launch.

Concluding the inspection, Chairman Le Hoang Minh affirmed that VATM will continue to mobilize maximum resources, enhance supervision, and provide close guidance to complete, inspect, and commission the air traffic management facilities on schedule. This ensures absolute safety for both the technical flight and the commercial operation phase of Long Thanh International Airport.

The air traffic control tower, a key component of the project, has completed its structural construction and is now in the equipment installation and finalization phase.

Previously, on November 2nd, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh conducted an on-site inspection of the Long Thanh International Airport project. The passenger terminal has largely completed its construction phase and is now focusing on finishing the roof, steel structure of the enclosed bridge area, glass wall installation, stone cladding, and electrical, water supply, drainage, and fire protection systems.

Runway 1 is essentially complete, while supporting packages such as the fuel supply system, parking facility, airport management system, Cargo Terminal 1, Runway 2, and connecting roads are ahead of schedule by 3–6 months.

Minister Tran Hong Minh directed ACV to collaborate with relevant units to expedite investment procedures for Runway 3 and Phase 2 of the Long Thanh Airport project. He also emphasized the need for continuous quality supervision, ensuring timely completion, safety, and investment efficiency.

As directed by the Prime Minister, the Long Thanh Airport project remains on track for substantial completion by December 19, 2025. The project has set a record with the Prime Minister visiting the site eight times in three years, most recently on August 2nd.

The air traffic control tower under Component Project 2 of Long Thanh Airport, with VATM as the investor, has a total investment of nearly VND 3,500 billion. This facility, along with the runway and passenger terminal, is a crucial step in preparing Long Thanh Airport for its Phase 1 operation in 2026.

The control tower stands at 123 meters tall, equipped with a radar system at its peak. It has a construction area of approximately 80 square meters, a tower diameter of about 10 meters, two apron control cabins (each 70 square meters), and a ground control cabin (150 square meters).

Upon completion, the Long Thanh air traffic control tower will serve as the “brain” of all takeoff and landing operations, ensuring the safety of hundreds of thousands of flights annually.
