During the regular press conference on Ho Chi Minh City’s socio-economic situation on the afternoon of November 13, Mr. Nguyễn Minh Hùng, Deputy Head of the Trade Management Department (Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City), shared details about upcoming year-end consumer stimulus and promotional programs.
According to Mr. Hùng, the city’s total retail sales for the first 10 months of the year increased by an average of 15% compared to the same period last year, marking a significant rise in recent years. However, to meet the city’s development goals, the Department of Industry and Trade will continue to implement measures to boost consumption through year-end.
The Department is advising the People’s Committee to propose a breakthrough trade promotion policy to the People’s Council, expected to be approved at the December session. This policy aims to create a special mechanism for businesses to expand their market reach more effectively.
Specifically, starting November 15, Ho Chi Minh City will launch the second phase of the 2025 Shopping Season, allowing businesses to offer discounts exceeding the usual 50% limit. E-wallets will participate to promote cashless payments, offering cashback on purchases at participating outlets. Ride-hailing services will also provide discounts to transport shoppers to these locations.
Notably, the “City Sale – Luxury Brands” event will take place simultaneously at Bến Thành Metro Station, major shopping centers in Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu, Bình Dương, and central Ho Chi Minh City, creating a vibrant year-end shopping atmosphere.
Mr. Hùng added that in December, the “Green Responsible Tet Month” program will be implemented across 12 retail systems, encouraging responsible shopping and ensuring a stable supply of Tet goods.
Another highlight is the Supply-Demand Connection Conference from December 19 to 21 in Vũng Tàu, featuring thousands of regional specialties and participation from 15 retail groups and 21 provinces. This event aims to bring quality products to Ho Chi Minh City consumers.
Additionally, the Department is collaborating with the City Labor Federation to offer exclusive discounts for workers, including subsidized transportation of goods to their hometowns for Tet, helping reduce shopping costs and ensuring a worry-free holiday.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, these promotional activities, supply-demand connections, and social welfare initiatives will drive strong growth, help businesses achieve year-end sales targets, and provide residents with a plentiful, safe, and warm Tet celebration.
