Dai Ngai 1 Bridge Surpasses Piling Construction Timeline

On November 12, Deo Ca Group Joint Stock Company announced the completion of all bored pile foundations for the Dai Ngai 1 Bridge, nearly one month ahead of schedule. The pier body and cap beam sections are expected to be finalized before the 2026 Lunar New Year.

Mr. Cao Ngoc Nam, Deputy General Director of Deo Ca, stated that the site is operating 30 construction points with over 400 engineers, workers, and 150 pieces of machinery, including advanced equipment like large-diameter pile drivers, 300-ton cranes, and 5,000-ton barges.

Due to its proximity to the sea, challenging weather conditions, and complex geology, the contractor conducted wind tunnel testing abroad and developed specialized models.

The bridge’s two main piers involve intricate construction processes. Built on the weak soil of the Mekong Delta, Dai Ngai 1 features Vietnam’s largest and deepest bored piles, measuring 2.5 meters in diameter and 116 meters deep, comparable to the Vam Cong Bridge.

Initially projected to take six days per pile, the contractor completed the foundation work almost a month early, marking a critical milestone for the cable-stayed tower and pedestal construction.

Deo Ca cited adverse weather in the Southwest region’s rainy season as the primary challenge. To maintain progress, the management team allocated backup resources and adapted construction strategies to ensure safety and minimize weather impacts.

The project report confirms the completion of all 60 approach bridge piles (1.5m diameter), six pier bases, two pier bodies, one cap beam, and 25/28 SuperT girders. Full pier and cap beam completion is slated for the 2026 Lunar New Year, with superstructure work commencing thereafter.

The Deputy General Director emphasized the contractor consortium’s focus on pouring 9,000m³ of concrete for the tower bases—a large-scale task requiring meticulous planning for equipment, manpower, and technical execution.

A VND 3.9 Trillion Cable-Stayed Bridge of Special Class

With a construction value of VND 3,907 billion, Dai Ngai 1 is the flagship component of Package 15XL in the Dai Ngai Bridge investment project. Spanning over 3km, the main bridge measures 2.59km long and 21.5m wide, crossing the Dinh An channel of the Hau River.

Designed as a special-class cable-stayed structure, the bridge features a 210+450+210m main span with twin 110m A-shaped towers—equivalent to a 35-story building. Its 450m main span ranks second nationally after Can Tho Bridge (550m) and is the first cable-stayed bridge engineered domestically.

Led by Deo Ca Group, the 1,250-day contract is scheduled for June 2028 completion. Upon finishing, Dai Ngai 1 will join Rach Mieu, Ham Luong, and Co Chien bridges in enhancing Mekong Delta connectivity, linking southern coastal provinces to Ho Chi Minh City, reducing travel times, lowering transport costs, and alleviating reliance on National Highway 1A.
