From November 12–15, 2025, the Vietnam Exhibition and Convention Center (VEC) in Dong Anh, Hanoi, hosted the “International Exhibition & Conference on Modern Railway Technology and Infrastructure Supply Chain” – VRT & CONS 2025. This international-scale event attracted a large number of visitors and industry professionals, featuring nearly 200 domestic and international companies with over 120 booths showcasing comprehensive technologies, products, and solutions for the railway and transportation infrastructure sectors.
This marks the first specialized international exhibition and conference on railways and infrastructure held in Vietnam, positioned as a strategic dialogue platform and long-term investment connector for Vietnam’s railway industrial ecosystem.
The event was organized by HTECH Technology & Engineering Joint Stock Company and the Open Innovation Institute & Technology Entrepreneurs. Collaborating agencies included the Vietnam Railway Authority (VNRA) under the Ministry of Construction, the Security Industry Department under the Ministry of Public Security, and the Railway Project Management Unit under the Ministry of Construction.
The overarching theme, “The Future of Vietnam Railways in the Global Supply Chain,” emphasized the development of a modern railway industrial ecosystem integrated with infrastructure supply chains, green transformation, and digital transition.
Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Danh Huy delivering the opening speech
In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Danh Huy stated that railways are identified as the most critical transportation mode, serving as the backbone of domestic connectivity and the fundamental solution to urban traffic congestion. The Politburo’s Conclusion 49 on the Railway Transportation Development Strategy outlines Vietnam’s goal to invest in a modern national railway system and complete urban rail networks in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Today, railways are not only a vital transportation mode but also a strategic infrastructure pillar, closely linked to urban spatial planning, technical infrastructure, and the nation’s socio-economic development.
As Vietnam implements the 2021–2030 Socio-Economic Development Strategy, focusing on sustainable, modern, and climate-resilient urban development aligned with green and digital transformation, the construction sector plays a pivotal role in:
Integrating urban spatial planning with national railway lines, high-speed railways, and urban rail systems. Developing new growth poles, satellite cities, and logistics, trade, and service hubs around stations, depots, and control centers. Promoting Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) models and optimizing land use along routes, stations, and interchange areas to fund railway infrastructure investments.
Railways are not isolated but integral to a holistic system of planning, architecture, infrastructure, and living spaces. Each railway line, station, and interchange acts as a “development catalyst” for surrounding areas, attracting investment, industry, services, innovation, and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
Thus, discussions at the VRT & CONS High-Level Forum address not only railway or transportation issues but also long-term concerns for urban planning, construction industry development, and Vietnam’s industrial growth.
According to organizers, VRT & CONS 2025 gathered nearly 90 domestic and international companies from countries including the UK, Austria, Germany, South Korea, Italy, Malaysia, the US, Japan, France, Switzerland, China, and others, alongside key Vietnamese entities such as the Vietnam Railway Authority, Hanoi Metro, Hoa Phat, Vinh Hung, Mico, TRV, and supporting construction and industrial firms.
Exhibited technologies and products included tunnel boring machines (TBMs), underground construction equipment by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry and Herrenknecht, railway infrastructure solutions by Voestalpine, GERB/Getzner, Pandrol, and Vossloh, and signaling, safety, and FRMCS systems by China Railway Signal & Communication (CRSC), Ericsson, and Trimble. Maintenance solutions, depot equipment, rail welding machines, and load monitoring systems were also showcased, along with industrial supply chain offerings from Vietnamese and international companies.
Prime Minister’s Landmark Proposal for the Rail Industry
The Ministry of Construction has submitted a draft decision to the Prime Minister, outlining a comprehensive list of railway industry goods and services, with an estimated total value of 15-20 billion USD over the next decade. This ambitious plan is set to significantly boost Vietnamese businesses, empowering them to take control of their production and drive the growth of the railway industry.
Railways: The Backbone of Transportation Driving National Development Aspirations
Railways have evolved beyond being merely the “lifeline” or “backbone” of socio-economic development. Today, they are a critical component in national security and defense strategies, while also serving as a cornerstone of the transportation sector.
