The delegation included key officials: Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member and Standing Member of the Party’s 14th Congress Document Subcommittee; Tran Luu Quang, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Tran Hong Ha, Central Committee member and Deputy Prime Minister; Vu Hong Thanh, Central Committee member and Vice Chairman of the National Assembly. Leaders from various central ministries and agencies also joined the delegation.

Receiving the delegation were Dong Nai provincial leaders: Vu Hong Van, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Vo Tan Duc, Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee.

Opening the meeting, General Secretary To Lam emphasized, “Long Thanh Airport symbolizes Vietnam’s development aspirations. Progress has been commendable, with many components on schedule.”

He highlighted its national significance, stating, “This project, with its massive investment and capacity, will position Vietnam as a leading aviation hub in Asia-Pacific.”

Designed as a green, smart airport, it reflects Vietnam’s vision for modern infrastructure. “It’s pivotal to our strategic development pillars: institutions, infrastructure, and human resources. Delays are not an option—every day lost is a setback for the nation,” he stressed.

He urged agencies to address key issues, including Long Thanh’s global competitiveness. “Learning from international airports, we must create a unique value proposition. The airport city and surrounding areas must be developed holistically to maximize impact.”

“Long Thanh should embody Vietnam’s identity, from architecture to customer experience. It must be the centerpiece of high-tech industries, tourism, and urban development—all synchronized for success,” he added.

He called for a comprehensive evaluation of the project’s efficiency, stressing, “A modern airport succeeds when passengers want to arrive, airlines want to land, and businesses want to invest.”

Ensuring Completion by December 19, 2025

Construction Minister Tran Hong Minh reported that Phase 1 includes two runways, a passenger terminal, and supporting facilities, targeting 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo annually. “Construction will be completed by December 19, 2025, with commercial operations starting mid-2026,” he stated.

Progress includes: government offices (90% complete), air traffic control facilities (completed), essential works (70% complete), and other infrastructure on track for the 2025 deadline.

General Secretary To Lam praised Phase 1’s progress, emphasizing its role in national development. He urged focus on global competitiveness, aiming for Long Thanh to be a model of modern, sustainable aviation.

“It must excel in service quality, connectivity, and efficiency, becoming Southeast Asia’s top aviation destination,” he said. He also stressed holistic investment evaluation and regional connectivity to maximize the airport’s impact.

He concluded, “With concerted efforts, Long Thanh will be a symbol of Vietnam’s modernity and sustainable growth.”
