Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Deputy Head of the Government Negotiation Team Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan engaged with U.S. counterparts during the technical negotiation session.
The Vietnamese negotiation team, led by Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, included members from various ministries and agencies: Public Security, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Home Affairs, Agriculture and Environment, Science and Technology, Justice, and the State Bank of Vietnam.
Over three days of negotiations, the Vietnamese and U.S. teams made significant progress on issues such as services, digital trade, agriculture, technical barriers to trade (TBT), and sanitary and phytosanitary standards (SPS). They also narrowed gaps on remaining topics. During the concluding meeting, representatives from the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) and the Vietnamese negotiation team agreed that the session yielded highly positive results, paving the way for the swift finalization of the Vietnam-U.S. Trade Agreement.
The U.S. delegation commended the Vietnamese team’s goodwill, efforts, and innovative approach, particularly highlighting the direct negotiations between Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer prior to the official technical session. Based on Vietnam’s requests, the U.S. provided initial positive feedback and indicated a willingness to address these within the framework of the overall negotiation outcomes.

Both sides agreed on post-negotiation tasks and will hold online meetings in the coming days to address outstanding issues and prepare for the ministerial-level virtual negotiations between U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Minister Nguyen Hong Dien, scheduled for November.
Alongside negotiations, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien met with the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, House Representatives, the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, and leaders of technology, semiconductor, footwear, and apparel associations to promote bilateral economic, investment, and trade cooperation, as well as advocate for Vietnam’s trade negotiation process.
