Meet Nguyen Anh Tuan, a 52-year-old banker from Hanoi with nearly three decades of experience driving gasoline cars—from Lada and UAZ to Hyundai i30. Over a year ago, he made the switch to electric vehicles with the VinFast VF 8.

In our conversation, Tuan shared his journey from skepticism to satisfaction, explaining why he believes electric vehicles are no longer a trend but the smartest choice for Vietnamese drivers.
You’ve been driving gasoline cars for years. What made you switch to electric?
I’ve been behind the wheel since 1995, back when cars were considered a luxury. My first car was an old Lada, followed by a UAZ, Toyota Crown, and Hyundai i30—all gasoline. I was used to the engine’s roar and exhaust fumes.
In 2022, I visited a VinFast showroom in Ha Dong out of curiosity. When they offered a test drive, I agreed. The VF 8 was incredibly smooth, with seamless acceleration and no noise—a refreshing change.

I placed a deposit of 10 million VND, thinking it was just a trial. But the more I researched, the more it made sense: lower costs, advanced technology, and clear government incentives. After a few months, I bought the VF 8—and I’ve never regretted it.
What was your first impression of the VF 8?
Its smoothness and quietness. Gasoline cars roar when accelerating or climbing hills, but the VF 8 is the opposite—powerful yet gentle. It’s a game-changer.
I often travel to Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, and Thai Nguyen. The VF 8 handles highways effortlessly, feeling stable and solid. No more fatigue from constant engine noise. Even on 200–300 km trips, it’s comfortable.
The VF 8’s cornering is impressive—light steering with precise feedback. If you’ve driven gasoline cars for years, you’ll notice the difference immediately.
Many worry about charging electric vehicles. How’s your experience?
I was initially concerned, but it’s simpler than I thought. I charge at home or public stations, usually once a week overnight. VinFast’s charging network is everywhere—three stations near my home in Ha Dong and even one 30 km away in my hometown.
On my longest trip to Ha Tinh, there were plenty of high-capacity stations along the way. Charging is as easy as charging my phone—no more worrying about station availability.
This is your second VinFast VF 8. Can you share more about that?
Yes. I received my first VF 8 in 2023 and upgraded to a new one in 2024. My first VF 8 has over 10,000 km, and the second already has 6,000 km. Owning two VF 8s in two years shows my trust in VinFast.

The second VF 8 feels more refined. My first one needed door modifications, but the new one is perfect out of the box.
Is an electric vehicle really more cost-effective?
Absolutely. I used to spend 2–3 million VND monthly on fuel. Now, with electric, costs are negligible. I switched from battery rental to ownership, saving 30–35 million VND annually.

Maintenance is minimal. No engine oil, spark plugs, or complex transmissions. Just routine checkups and software updates.
Any downsides to the VF 8?
Minor issues. The large tires can be vulnerable on rough roads—I’ve had two punctures, but that’s common with thin tires. The suspension is firm for stability at high speeds, which can feel stiff on poor roads. Improved softness would be ideal.
The high front design limits visibility, but the 360-degree camera works well, even in low light with experience.
How about the smart features?
I rarely use them. Voice commands and auto climate control are nice, but I prefer manual controls. For me, stability and reliability matter most. A smooth, error-free drive is all I need.
What about after-sales service?
VinFast’s service is exceptional. When my sensor malfunctioned, a technician arrived promptly. They’re proactive with software updates and regular check-ins—a clear advantage over other brands.
After a year, do you think you made the right choice?
Definitely. Electric vehicles are no longer a fad. They’re quiet, clean, low-maintenance, and cost-effective. Once you experience the VF 8’s smoothness, going back to gasoline is hard.

Advice for those considering electric vehicles?
“Just try it.” Electric vehicles are the future of transportation. Charging infrastructure and policies have improved dramatically. For urban drivers with short commutes, they’re perfect—saving money, clean, and convenient. Many past concerns are unfounded.
