The RedMagic 11 Pro has taken the gaming phone world by storm, topping Phone Arena’s rankings. Mariyan Slavov, a renowned tech reviewer, decided to use it as his daily driver to experience its real-world performance.
Using the RedMagic 11 Pro as my primary device has been an unexpectedly refreshing experience, one I haven’t felt in years. Here’s Mariyan’s story:
The Spark of Curiosity
Over the past week, everyone I’ve met has asked the same question: “What phone is that?” Followed by: “Can I see it?”
This reaction isn’t entirely surprising, given the RedMagic 11 Pro’s striking design. Even strangers on the street have stopped me to inquire, something that hasn’t happened in years. I’ve also caught people sneaking glances whenever I’m on a call. It’s then that I realized: we’ve lost this kind of interaction.
I’m not naive enough to think everyone should care about tech, or that smartphones should spark conversations between strangers. But the fact that this used to happen (and now rarely does) shows how homogenized smartphones have become.
Look at the latest iPhones, Galaxies, and Pixels. Remove the cameras and logos, and you’d struggle to tell them apart from a distance. This design uniformity peaked in 2025, making flagship phones more indistinguishable than ever.
Flat sides, nearly identical button placements, subtle camera bumps, and glass backs. I wouldn’t call them boring, but let’s be honest: they don’t exactly inspire excitement either.
My former Samsung-loyalist partner never once had anyone ask about her phone during our seven years together. That’s how “invisible” these devices have become.
So how does the RedMagic 11 Pro break this monotony?
What Makes the RedMagic 11 Pro Stand Out?
“The magic is in the back.” It’s a cliché, but true—when every phone’s front is just a screen, the back becomes the canvas.
RedMagic’s transparent back isn’t entirely new, but what lies beneath the glass is. A glowing green cooling fan (borrowed from servers) looks like something out of sci-fi. Silver industrial accents, exposed screws, metal plates, and a faux chip in the top-left corner combine to create a design that demands attention.
Which brings us back to the core question: do we actually need this, or is it just for show?
Today, most smartphones are purely utilitarian. The days of the iPhone as a status symbol are long gone—they’re too common, some even cheaper than Android phones. No one bats an eye at an iPhone 17 Pro Max anymore.
Sure, you could buy a phone with a flashy backplate. That works too, but where does that leave us in the RedMagic 11 discussion?
I genuinely believe diversity makes things interesting. Homogenity rarely excites, and this applies to smartphones too.
There’s nothing wrong with phones being tools, but if you want a device that sparks curiosity, starts conversations, or simply looks “cool,” phones like the RedMagic 11 fill that void.
In a world where smartphones are indistinguishable, the RedMagic 11 is a breath of fresh air. To some, it might be “too much”—unnecessary, flashy, even odd-looking. But that’s the point: it exists.
It exists for those tired of sameness, and for the sake of diversity itself. Personally, I enjoy the attention and conversations it sparks, and I’ll continue using it as my daily driver. For everyone else, there’s nothing wrong with your Galaxies, iPhones, and Pixels.
