On November 15th, Thailand announced that the United States had suspended negotiations aimed at finalizing a bilateral trade agreement until Thailand reaffirms its commitment to a ceasefire with Cambodia.

Thai Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura confirmed receiving a letter from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) on the evening of November 14th (local time) regarding this matter.

According to Nikorndej, the letter stated that trade negotiations could resume once Thailand reaffirms its commitment to implementing the joint ceasefire declaration with Cambodia.

Both parties need to negotiate and finalize the agreement’s details before signing it into effect. The letter was sent after the U.S. and Thailand announced a bilateral trade framework last month. Under this framework, the U.S. will maintain a 19% tariff on Thai products while identifying items eligible for tariff adjustments or reductions to 0%.
