On November 18, the Da Nang Department of Construction announced its response to voters’ recommendations regarding the city’s urban development strategy, which focuses on expanding southward to alleviate pressure on the central area.

According to voter feedback, this expansion will help reduce infrastructure, traffic, and population strain on the urban core, while effectively utilizing land resources and unlocking the potential of the southern region to create new growth poles.

The current urban core of Da Nang is located in the old city center, while the southern area comprises communes and wards previously part of Quang Nam Province.

The Department of Construction stated that the city’s People’s Committee has issued a plan to adjust the 2021-2030 master plan, with a vision to 2050, and to develop urban and rural planning following administrative unit reorganization. During this process, the city will explore sustainable development solutions, restructure urban space, and identify key development corridors and hubs.

Based on the comprehensive plan, Da Nang will reallocate resources and build synchronized regional infrastructure to support socio-economic development goals.

In response to voter recommendations, the city’s People’s Committee has tasked the Department of Construction and the Project Management Board for Civil and Industrial Construction with conducting research and providing advice during the planning process.

Following its merger with Quang Nam Province, Da Nang has become the largest city among the six centrally governed cities in Vietnam, with an area exceeding 11,859 km² and a population of over 3 million people.
