Thaco Agri Seeks Special Mechanisms for Agricultural Projects in Gia Lai

At a meeting with the People’s Committee of Gia Lai Province on the morning of November 18, Mr. Trần Bảo Sơn—Deputy General Director of THACO and General Director of Truong Hai Agricultural Joint Stock Company (Thaco Agri)—proposed several special mechanisms for the company’s projects in the region.

In Gia Lai, Trung Nguyên Rubber Co., Ltd. – a subsidiary of Thaco Agri – is currently investing in six projects that integrate rubber cultivation with crop rotation, livestock farming, and processing. These projects are located in Ia Púch (over 2,200 ha), Pờ Tó (over 1,199 ha), and Ia Le (over 658 ha) communes.

For the three projects in Ia Púch, Pờ Tó, and Ia Le, which are part of the program to address underperforming or dead rubber trees, the company has requested the Provincial People’s Committee to propose a special mechanism to the Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. This includes waiving the obligation to replant forests when converting areas with underperforming or dead rubber trees to other agricultural projects.

Once the Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development provide official feedback, the company asks the Ia Púch Commune People’s Committee to reclaim land from Trung Nguyên Rubber Co., Ltd. and lease it to Trung Nguyên Beef Cattle Co., Ltd. for their project in Ia Púch.

Thaco Agri commits to surveying, planning, and investing in the Ia Púch inter-commune road under a Build-Transfer (BT) model.

The company also requests relevant agencies to consolidate fragmented land parcels into contiguous plots to ensure compliance with planning regulations and facilitate the 1,199-ha livestock project. The consolidated land will be handed over to local communities for cultivation.

Additionally, the company proposes that the Provincial People’s Committee and the Ia Púch Protective Forest Management Board allocate or lease 236 ha of production forest land interspersed within the project area, along with 281 ha of land along the Ia Drang stream, for buffer zone planting to ensure biosecurity.

In response to Thaco Agri’s proposals, the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee acknowledged the request for a special mechanism for underperforming rubber areas. Once the Government provides official guidance, the province will direct relevant departments and localities to complete the necessary procedures in compliance with regulations. The Chairman also praised Thaco Agri’s commitment to investing in the new road under the BT model.

The province has tasked the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and relevant local authorities with reviewing and resolving land encroachment and cultivation issues. They are also to explore land consolidation options to create contiguous plots for the company. Additionally, the province will consider the company’s proposal to allocate or lease production forest land and stream-adjacent land for buffer zone planting to ensure biosecurity.

On the same day, Mr. Scott Bedke, Lieutenant Governor of Idaho (USA), visited Thaco Agri’s beef cattle farm. Idaho’s government and businesses expressed interest in collaborating with Gia Lai enterprises in livestock techniques, breeding, and market access.
