Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Circular 50, outlining the roadmap for implementing the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels in Vietnam.
E10 gasoline will be available nationwide from June 1, 2026
This circular details the roadmap for blending biofuels with traditional fuels in Vietnam, specifying blending ratios, implementation timelines, and the use of bioethanol gasoline for gasoline engines.
Specifically, from June 1, 2026, unleaded gasoline (as per current national technical standards) must be blended into E10 gasoline for use in gasoline engines nationwide.
Compared to earlier proposals, this transition to E10 gasoline is delayed by six months. Previously, the Ministry of Industry and Trade had proposed that from January 1, 2026, all gasoline formulated, blended, and sold for gasoline-powered vehicles nationwide would be E10.
Adopting E10 While Maintaining E5 Until 2030
A notable aspect of Circular 50 is the allowance for continued blending and use of E5RON92 gasoline for gasoline engines until December 31, 2030.
During the implementation of the biofuel blending roadmap, the Minister of Industry and Trade may adjust blending ratios and introduce new fuel types based on economic, social, technological, supply-demand dynamics, and other relevant factors. These adjustments aim to ensure energy security, environmental protection, and consumer rights.
Until the mandatory use of B5 and B10 biodiesel for diesel engines is enforced, organizations and individuals are encouraged to produce, blend, trade, and use these biodiesel variants.
The Domestic Market Management and Development Department will collaborate with the Ministry of Finance’s functional units to develop and propose tax policies and financial incentives to promote the trade and use of bioethanol gasoline and biofuels. They will also guide the calculation of biofuel selling prices, ensuring market principles with state oversight.
