According to data from Motorcycles Data, the total motorcycle sales in the market as of September 2025 reached 2.4 million units, marking a 19% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This growth is predominantly driven by the electric motorcycle segment, with VinFast emerging as a standout performer.

VinFast achieved a remarkable 447% growth in the first six months of 2025.

VinFast Continues Its Bold Moves, While Honda Remains Cautious

VinFast’s disclosed data reveals that 69,580 electric motorcycles and e-bikes were delivered in Q2, a 55% increase from the previous quarter and a 432% surge compared to Q2 2024.

In the first half of 2025, the company delivered a total of 114,484 electric motorcycles and e-bikes, showcasing an impressive 447% growth year-over-year.

Ahead of the year-end shopping season, VinFast launched a massive promotional campaign with total prizes valued at 27.5 billion VND. Highlights include a 10% direct discount, 100% registration fee support, and free charging until May 2027.

Additionally, VinFast offers a lucky draw with grand prizes such as the VF 7, VF 5, VF 3 electric cars, and 1,000 Feliz Lite electric motorcycles. Many dealerships also provide exclusive deals like a 12% discount or financing support for up to 80% of the vehicle’s value.

These initiatives aim to significantly boost Q4 2025 sales and help the company double its delivery volume compared to 2024.

Alongside VinFast, Yadea is solidifying its position as a major player in the market. The brand reports that its market share in Vietnam has doubled over two years, from 10% to 20%.

Yadea’s strategy focuses on localization and capacity expansion, with the construction of a factory in Bac Giang expected to produce 2 million units annually. Its goal to become Southeast Asia’s largest electric two-wheeler production hub underscores long-term commitment and future competitiveness in pricing and volume.

Meanwhile, Dat Bike positions itself in the premium segment, focusing on performance to fully replace gasoline bikes. Models like the Quantum S1, S2, and S3 are launched with prices ranging from 34.9 to 50.9 million VND.

Dat Bike’s successful Series B funding round, raising 22 million USD and bringing total funding to 47 million USD, highlights international investor confidence in its performance- and technology-driven approach.

In contrast, Honda, holding 80% of the traditional motorcycle market, remains cautious in its electrification journey. With limited offerings like the ICON e: and CUV e: (available only for leasing), and plans to develop another model in Thailand before localizing production, Honda’s transition appears gradual, focusing primarily on the 50cc segment to test the market.

Forecasting Record-Breaking Sales

Detailed Q4 2025 electric motorcycle sales figures are yet to be released by manufacturers. However, market factors suggest strong growth. Q4 typically sees peak demand, amplified by VinFast’s substantial promotions and the impressive growth momentum from the first half of the year. Thus, Q4 2025 sales are expected to maintain high growth, potentially surpassing the first half’s performance.

This growth is primarily driven by market acceptance of high-performance L3 models and the popularity of affordable L1 models, aligning with evolving consumer preferences.

The most significant catalyst for the electric motorcycle market is anticipated to be government policy.

Encouraging the shift from gasoline to electric vehicles is a key solution to reducing urban pollution.

In mid-2025, the Prime Minister issued a directive on urgent measures to address environmental pollution, including Hanoi’s plan to ban/restrict gasoline motorcycles starting July 2026.

According to the city’s draft roadmap, gasoline motorcycles will be restricted within the Ring Road 1 area from July 1, 2026, expanding to Ring Road 2 in 2028 and Ring Road 3 in 2030.

Hanoi currently has over 8 million motor vehicles, including more than 7.7 million motorcycles. Ring Road 1, spanning 7.2 km, passes through central areas of six districts, home to approximately 600,000 residents and nearly 450,000 gasoline motorcycles.

The restriction on gasoline motorcycles will necessitate the replacement of nearly half a million vehicles with electric alternatives, creating an immediate and massive potential market in the capital’s core area.

With Hanoi’s supportive policies and expanded product portfolios from leading brands, Vietnam’s electric motorcycle market is projected to experience explosive growth in 2026, surpassing 2025 levels.
