Vietnam’s National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam – PVN) announced that at 12:38 PM on November 13, 2025, the Nhon Trach 2 Power Plant, operated by Nhon Trach 2 Power Joint Stock Company (NT2), reached a milestone of 60 billion kWh of commercial electricity fed into the national grid after 14 years of commercial operation (since October 16, 2011).
The Nhon Trach 2 Power Plant operates with high flexibility, maintaining an average load factor of over 80%, ensuring it consistently meets the demands of the national power system. With a capacity of 750 MW, the plant supplies approximately 4.2 billion kWh annually to the grid. Achieving 60 billion kWh after 14 years of operation not only marks a significant milestone in the electricity market but also underscores NT2’s role in ensuring national energy security.
Throughout its operations, NT2 has prioritized high standards in maintenance, repairs, and technical improvements. The company continuously drives innovation and technical enhancements to optimize efficiency, ensuring stable and uninterrupted operations while achieving outstanding output and increasing business effectiveness.
In terms of business performance, as of October 2025, NT2 recorded cumulative revenue of nearly 100 trillion VND, with pre-tax profit exceeding 10.233 trillion VND. The company has contributed over 3.847 trillion VND to the state budget and allocated 38.35 billion VND for social welfare activities.
In late October, NT2 finalized its shareholder list to distribute the remaining dividend from accumulated undistributed after-tax profits. According to the announced resolution, NT2 will pay a cash dividend at a rate of 7%, equivalent to 700 VND per share. Payments began on October 31.
With approximately 287.9 million shares outstanding, NT2 will allocate around 201.5 billion VND for this dividend payment, sourced from accumulated undistributed after-tax profits.
The Nhon Trach 2 Thermal Power Plant is part of the Nhon Trach Power Center in Dong Nai Province, approximately 35 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. Construction began on June 27, 2009.
According to Petrovietnam, the project has a total investment of over 700 million USD. It is structured as an Independent Power Producer (IPP) project, co-owned by six founding shareholders through equity contributions.
The shareholders include Petrovietnam, EVN, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group, Vinacomin, BIDV, and other partners. Petrovietnam holds a controlling stake of 51.8%, ensuring strategic direction and long-term stability for the project.
The Nhon Trach 2 Power Plant primarily uses natural gas extracted from the Cuu Long and Nam Con Son basins.
With a capacity of 750 MW, the plant generates an average of 4.2 billion kWh annually, utilizing advanced global technology, including two gas turbines, two heat recovery boilers, and one steam turbine.
