Starting January 1, 2026, new regulations mandate that all vehicles transporting children must be equipped with specialized safety devices. While this rule aims to enhance protection for young passengers, many parents are overwhelmed by the challenge of selecting the right car seat, understanding safety standards, and ensuring proper installation.

According to reports from *Báo Người Lao Động*, the market offers hundreds of car seat models, including infant carriers, 360-degree rotating seats, booster seats, and more, categorized by age, weight, and height. However, the quality and safety standards vary significantly, leaving parents confused.

Some products meet European standards like ECE R44/04 or R129 (i-Size), while others are vaguely labeled as “child safety seats” with unclear origins, making it difficult for buyers to assess their reliability.

Thanh Huệ, a resident of Thạnh Mỹ Tây Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, shared that she spent nearly a week researching reviews and seeking advice from parenting groups but remains unsure whether to choose a 360-degree rotating seat, a fixed seat, or a simpler option. Prices range from a few million to over ten million VND, adding to the confusion.

Đào Khai Ngọc from Cát Lái Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, faces a similar dilemma: opting for a high-end seat costing tens of millions or a budget option available online for just a few hundred thousand VND.

Ngọc highlighted affordable options like the AutoX seat for 6-year-olds, priced at over 200,000 VND after a 35% discount, or a seat for children aged 0–6 years at 369,000 VND. The Cola Home seat for 0–4-year-olds is priced at 408,000 VND, while the 3–12-year-old version costs 625,000 VND. “I’m unsure if these budget seats are safe,” Ngọc admitted.

In contrast, high-end brands like Bebebus, Chicco, Joie, and Maxi-Cosi range from 15 to 22 million VND, further complicating the decision-making process for parents.

Many parents also confuse age limits with weight limits, leading to inappropriate seat choices. A 5-year-old with a lighter build may still need a harness seat, while others switch to booster seats prematurely.

Online shoppers often rely solely on age descriptions, only to find the seat doesn’t fit their child properly upon use.

Experts warn that improper installation renders seats nearly ineffective. International studies show that 60–70% of child seats are installed incorrectly, with issues like loose straps, unsecured rear-facing seats, or premature forward-facing positioning.

While vehicle owners support the new regulation, they urge authorities to provide clear, unified guidelines on safety standards, age/weight classifications, and installation procedures. This would help parents make informed choices and avoid costly mistakes.
