Employees Can Still Receive Wages During Work Suspension Due to Power Outages, Natural Disasters, and More

Recently, heavy rainfall and flooding have disrupted production conditions, forcing many businesses to temporarily suspend operations for their employees.

According to Article 99 of the 2019 Labor Code, in cases where work suspension is caused by power or water supply issues not attributable to the employer, or due to natural disasters, fires, hazardous epidemics, enemy actions, relocation as required by competent state agencies, or economic reasons, the employer and employee shall agree on the suspension wage as follows:

– For suspensions lasting 14 working days or less, the agreed suspension wage must not be lower than the minimum wage.

– For suspensions exceeding 14 working days, the suspension wage is mutually agreed upon, ensuring that the wage for the first 14 days is not less than the minimum wage.

Therefore, in such cases, employees are entitled to a suspension wage, which must be at least equal to the regional minimum wage.
