Ahead of the highly anticipated Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week 2025 (GJAW), scheduled from November 21 to 30, 2025, Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) in Indonesia has announced the unveiling of the Toyota Veloz hybrid. This exciting reveal promises to be a highlight of the event, showcasing Toyota’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

According to a Toyota sales representative in Indonesia, the Veloz hybrid will be available in four variants, with a starting price of 299 million Rupiah (approximately 471 million VND). If accurate, this pricing positions the Veloz hybrid as the most affordable electrified vehicle in Toyota’s Indonesian lineup, even undercutting the Yaris Cross hybrid.
Previously, data from Samsat DKI Jakarta, the vehicle registration and taxation authority, revealed a new model code “W102RE” with two configurations: 1.5Q HV CVT and 1.5Q HV CVT TSS. This suggests the Veloz hybrid will likely feature a 1.5L engine paired with an electric motor and a CVT transmission, similar to the hybrid setup seen in models like the Yaris Cross.

Additionally, the vehicle is expected to include a sporty Modellista variant. It remains unclear whether the Veloz hybrid’s design will receive significant updates.

In addition to expanding its hybrid lineup, Toyota Indonesia is reportedly finalizing a battery assembly line to support its next-generation hybrid models. As of August 2025, hybrids accounted for 56% of Toyota’s total sales in Indonesia, underscoring the growing demand for electrified vehicles.
In Vietnam, the Toyota Veloz Cross is currently imported from Indonesia and does not yet offer a hybrid variant. However, Toyota Vietnam’s hybrid portfolio is expanding rapidly, with models like the Corolla Cross, Camry, Corolla Altis, and Yaris Cross. The upcoming launch of the Veloz hybrid in Indonesia is seen as a positive sign, potentially paving the way for its introduction to Vietnamese consumers.

Among direct competitors, the Mitsubishi Xpander has already launched a hybrid variant in Thailand and Indonesia, though it is not yet available in Vietnam. If Toyota introduces the Veloz Cross hybrid soon, it could gain a significant advantage, narrowing the sales gap with the Xpander in the affordable MPV segment.
