Vietnam Set to Unveil New Strategic Hub, Bolstering $20 Billion Milestone

Recently, at the Tan Nam International Border Gate Joint Control Station (Tan Bien commune), a bilateral meeting was held between delegations from Tay Ninh Province (Vietnam) and Prey Veng Province (Cambodia) to prepare for the inauguration ceremony of the Tan Nam – Meun Chey international border gate pair, as reported by Tay Ninh Newspaper.

According to the agreement, the official inauguration will take place on December 5th at the Tan Nam International Border Gate Control Station. Approximately 500 delegates are expected to attend, including central government representatives, officials from Tay Ninh and Prey Veng provinces, and guests from other border provinces in Vietnam.

Previously, the inauguration of the Tan Nam – Meun Chey international border gate pair was tentatively scheduled for October 20-30, as a national-level event co-hosted by Tay Ninh Province and Prey Veng Province (Kingdom of Cambodia) at both the Tan Nam (Vietnam) and Meun Chey (Cambodia) border gates.

The construction project of the Tan Nam International Border Gate (located in Tan Bien commune, Tay Ninh Province) has a total investment of 274 billion VND (with 130 billion VND from the central budget and the remainder from the provincial budget). The project is managed by the Tay Ninh Provincial Project Management Board.

During a meeting with General Secretary To Lam in early September, Senate President Hun Sen, who also serves as Chairman of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), noted that in the first seven months of the year, the trade surplus favored Cambodia, with the Kingdom exporting approximately $3.8 billion and importing $3.2 billion from Vietnam.

On September 1st, during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin (China), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed strengthening cooperation to facilitate investment and business activities for companies from both nations, aiming to double the current trade volume to $20 billion in the near future. The Vietnamese leader also emphasized the need to enhance transportation connectivity, streamline cross-border logistics, and boost tourism cooperation.

Prime Minister Hun Manet agreed to expedite the completion of the Phnom Penh – Bavet expressway and the inauguration of the Tan Nam – Meun Chey border gate.
