VinFast VF6 Dominates the Market, Mitsubishi Xforce Rejoins the Sales Race

The compact SUV market in Vietnam, one of the most dynamic and fiercely competitive segments, is being reshaped by a three-way race between an electric vehicle and two Japanese models.

The Mitsubishi Xforce delivered an impressive performance in October, achieving its highest sales record of the year with 1,854 units delivered. This growth is attributed to strategic sales adjustments and promotional offers, allowing the Xforce to temporarily surpass its direct competitor, the Toyota Yaris Cross.

Meanwhile, the Yaris Cross also performed admirably, with 1,833 units sold. The slight difference of just a few dozen units highlights the intense competition between these two Japanese models.

Cumulatively, the Yaris Cross maintains its lead in the gasoline vehicle segment, outselling the Xforce by approximately 1,600 units as of October. Mitsubishi faces significant pressure to deliver more robust breakthroughs in the final two months of the year to challenge for the top position in the internal combustion engine segment.

Beyond the fierce competition between these B-segment SUVs with internal combustion engines, the dominance of the VinFast VF 6 is undeniable. This all-electric model from VinFast secured the top spot in the segment with 2,524 units sold in October.

VF6 remains unchallenged in the B-segment SUV category.

With a cumulative sales lead of over 5,000 units, the VF 6 is poised to become the best-selling model in the segment for 2025. Its success not only reshapes the rankings but also underscores the growing acceptance of electric vehicles among Vietnamese consumers. This is evident in the B-segment SUV category’s 46% year-over-year growth, primarily driven by VF 6 sales, while internal combustion engine vehicles saw only a modest 2% increase.

The shift toward new models and electric vehicles has placed significant pressure on formerly dominant models in the market.

Once-leading models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are gradually losing their appeal. Although the Creta remains the best-selling Korean model, its cumulative sales gap with the Xforce (in third place) has widened to over 3,700 units. This signals a shift in the segment’s dynamics, moving from a Korean brand-dominated battle to a competition between electrification (VF 6) and the resurgence of Japanese brands (Yaris Cross, Xforce).
