Disrupting the Balance in Vietnam

After a period of absence in the high-end segment in Vietnam, Vivo has made a strong comeback with the launch of its flagship duo, the Vivo X300 and X300 Pro. This move underscores the company’s focus on advancing mobile photography technology.

The X300 series is distinctly segmented to cater to two different user groups. The standard Vivo X300 (12GB RAM and 256GB storage) offers a rare option for those seeking a compact flagship.

Featuring a 6.31-inch flat screen, the device weighs only 190 grams and measures 7.95mm thick, offering a minimalist design and a balanced in-hand feel. In contrast, the Vivo X300 Pro targets a premium experience with a single configuration of 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.

The X300 Pro boasts a larger 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED flat screen, weighing 226 grams and measuring 7.99mm thick, exuding a professional and high-end aesthetic. Both models are equipped with IP68/IP69 dust and water resistance, ensuring durability.

Vivo’s pricing strategy for the X300 Pro in Vietnam is built on maximizing real-world value. While the listed price of the X300 Pro (16GB/512GB) is 34.9 million VND, comparable to its top competitors, aggressive launch promotions have brought the actual purchase price down to around 29.9 million VND.

This price adjustment positions the X300 Pro competitively. At its listed price, it matches the Galaxy S25 Ultra and is 8 million VND cheaper than the iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB (listed at 37.9 million VND).

By focusing on post-discount real value rather than a lower initial price, Vivo creates a significant price gap compared to its dominant competitors.

This approach attracts users seeking top-tier camera technology and powerful hardware without the premium associated with Apple’s or Samsung’s complex ecosystems.

What’s Notable About the X300 and X300 Pro’s Specs?

The Vivo X300 Pro features a 120Hz LTPO AMOLED display, ensuring smooth scrolling and gaming. Its standout feature is the peak brightness of 4,500 nits, surpassing many other flagships.

The 6.78-inch screen offers a 1.5K resolution (2800 x 1260 pixels), delivering detailed visuals and vibrant colors.

Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 octa-core chipset and 16GB of RAM, the X300 Pro includes the powerful Imagiq 1190 ISP, supporting a 200MP primary camera and advanced video options like 4K@120 fps and 8K@60 fps.

However, compared to top-tier competitors, Vivo’s hardware philosophy involves calculated trade-offs. Benchmarks show the Dimensity 9500 trails behind the latest chipsets from rivals, such as the Snapdragon 8 Elite (Galaxy S25 Ultra) and Apple A19 Pro (iPhone 17 Pro Max), which are built on 3nm processes and offer superior raw performance and energy efficiency.

Specifically, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, built on a 3nm process, outperforms both the A19 Pro and Dimensity 9500, with 23% faster graphics and 35% better energy efficiency.

Vivo’s choice of the Dimensity 9500 reflects a multi-faceted decision. Firstly, it reduces production costs, supporting an attractive real-world pricing strategy. More importantly, Vivo maximizes the chipset’s ISP and NPU (AI) capabilities for complex camera tasks, the device’s core strength.

To compensate for the lack of absolute raw power, Vivo equips the X300 Pro with 16GB of RAM, more than the 12GB in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, ensuring seamless multitasking.

Massive 6510 mAh Battery Advantage

Another key highlight of the Vivo X300 Pro is its massive 6510 mAh battery, a rarity in the flagship segment, especially when compared to the 5000 mAh battery in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It supports 90W wired and 40W wireless charging for convenience.

In real-world use, the 6510 mAh battery, combined with the Dimensity 9500’s energy optimization, easily lasts through a full day. Some Chinese users report up to two days of use under typical conditions.

For Vivo’s flagship users—who often engage in 4K/8K video recording, professional photography, and other power-intensive tasks—the large battery ensures maximum uptime during extended shoots or travel.

Camera Praise

The biggest highlight and reason for Vivo’s return to the high-end segment is its camera system, developed in collaboration with ZEISS. The X300 Pro features a powerful triple rear camera setup: a 50MP Sony LYT-828 primary camera with OIS, a 50MP Samsung JN1 ultra-wide camera, and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera.

All lenses are coated with ZEISS T*, reducing glare and ghosting while enhancing optical clarity. Vivo also offers a Photographer Kit for early buyers in Vietnam, including a grip with a built-in battery and a 2.35x optical zoom lens, positioning the device as a professional photography tool.

The periscope telephoto camera is the most innovative component, using a custom-developed 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HPB sensor (1/1.4-inch), one of the largest ever used in a smartphone telephoto lens, surpassing even the 200MP sensor in the Oppo Find X9 Pro (1/1.56″). The lens has an 85mm focal length (3.5x optical zoom) and an f/2.67 aperture, with OIS and autofocus.

The 200MP resolution on the telephoto lens offers a clear advantage: it enables hybrid zoom at 10x and 40x by cropping from the large, dense sensor, rather than relying on interpolation from a smaller one. This is why Vivo calls the X300 Pro the “telephoto camera king.”

The X300 Pro’s camera system has received widespread acclaim from international tech reviewers. TechRadar hailed it as “one of the best smartphone camera systems of 2025,” highlighting its superiority over other Chinese camera phones.

Its zoom capabilities are described as “astonishing,” with detailed and sharp results even at 100x zoom after processing. Low-light telephoto performance is also praised, with sharp, detailed images and excellent dynamic range at the native 3.5x focal length.

The 3.5x (85mm) lens offers natural, flattering portraits with beautiful background separation. Its impressive close-focusing ability allows for ultra-detailed macro shots using the telephoto lens, outperforming even the iPhone’s macro capabilities.

How Does It Compare to Top Flagships?

In direct comparisons, the Vivo X300 Pro excels in many aspects of still photography. Its 50MP sensor captures more detail, natural contrast, and vibrant colors than the iPhone 17 Pro Max at the same 24mm focal length.

At 10x and 40x zoom levels, the X300 Pro delivers significantly sharper and more detailed results. At the iPhone’s maximum 40x zoom, the Vivo “easily outperforms” its rival.

The battle with the Galaxy S25 Ultra is more evenly matched, especially in zoom capabilities.

The S25 Ultra’s dual telephoto system (10MP 3x and 50MP 5x) offers greater flexibility at lower zoom levels, particularly at 5x optical zoom. However, the X300 Pro takes the lead in detail quality at 10x and beyond. Its large 200MP telephoto sensor, designed specifically for zooming, reproduces finer details than the S25 Ultra at higher magnification.

The Vivo X300 Pro offers superior hardware at a significantly lower real-world price than its competitors. At around 29.9 million VND, users get a top-tier 200MP telephoto camera, a massive 6510 mAh battery, and 16GB of RAM.

However, users should note the trade-offs. The Dimensity 9500’s raw performance may not match that of 3nm chips from rivals. Additionally, OriginOS, based on Android, may feel less familiar or optimized compared to Apple’s iOS or Samsung’s One UI ecosystems.

The Vivo X300 Pro proves that the crowded flagship market still has room for focused technological breakthroughs, especially when paired with an extremely attractive pricing strategy. By offering superior camera hardware and battery life at a lower real-world price, Vivo brings a fresh perspective to Vietnam’s market, long dominated by Apple and Samsung.
