Late November marks a bustling period for Vietnam’s domestic aviation market as Vietjet Air announces the resumption of direct flights to Con Dao after a nearly month-long hiatus. This is fantastic news for millions of travelers, especially those who adore Con Dao, as the year-end travel season approaches. The demand for this island, renowned for its pristine nature and spiritual journey, is also on the rise.
According to Tuoi Tre newspaper, Vietjet will restart its Hanoi – Con Dao and Ho Chi Minh City – Con Dao routes from November 25, 2025, with one flight per day in each direction, and plans to increase frequency from December. Previously, during the suspension period starting mid-October, passengers from the North had to transit through Ho Chi Minh City or Can Tho to reach Con Dao, significantly increasing travel time and costs. Tuoi Tre notes that the route resumption “helps passengers save travel time and expands options during the peak season.”

In addition to resuming flights, Vietjet Air previously made headlines with its “Con Dao Ritual Package” offered alongside flight tickets in April. According to various news outlets, the airline introduced four package levels priced from approximately 450,000 VND to over 6 million VND, including scarves, incense, flower baskets, fruit trays, and premium versions featuring roasted pigs and pearl gifts.
Airlines Operating Flights to Con Dao
Alongside Vietjet Air, flights to Con Dao have primarily been maintained by VASCO, a member of Vietnam Airlines. On its official website, Vietnam Airlines confirms that the Ho Chi Minh City – Con Dao and Can Tho – Con Dao routes are currently operated using ATR-72 aircraft, a small propeller plane suitable for local airport conditions. Reports also noted during Vietjet’s suspension that “only VASCO is operating flights to Con Dao using ATR-72 aircraft.”
Besides these two airlines, Bamboo Airways previously operated the Hanoi – Con Dao route using Embraer aircraft and was dubbed the “only airline offering direct flights from Hanoi to Con Dao” by aviation platforms like BestPrice and Abay in 2023–2024. However, according to Tuoi Tre, the airline no longer operates this route. This means that with Vietjet’s return, the primary carriers serving Con Dao are VASCO and Vietjet Air.

Vietjet’s return is expected to alleviate demand pressure and provide more fare options, especially as many VASCO flights are often fully booked during peak seasons. This is also a significant boost for Con Dao tourism, with visitor numbers projected to rise during the year-end and spring periods.
Con Dao – Pristine Nature, Rich History, and Unique Experiences
Beyond its spiritual appeal, Con Dao has become a top choice for domestic and international travelers due to its untouched natural beauty. According to VnExpress, Dam Trau Beach – located near the airport – is the island’s most beautiful beach with clear blue waters, gentle waves, and is particularly ideal for sunset viewing. From here, visitors can continue their journey to Hon Bay Canh and Hon Cau, two islands known for their stunning coral reefs and sea turtle habitats.
From May to August, Con Dao enters sea turtle nesting season. The condao.com.vn portal notes that visitors can register to observe mother turtles laying eggs or participate in releasing baby turtles into the sea – an activity rarely found elsewhere in Vietnam. Many eco-tours on Hon Bay Canh allow visitors to accompany forest rangers and learn about decades-long sea turtle conservation efforts.

Besides its natural beauty, Con Dao is rich in historical value. Con Dao Prison – once dubbed the “hell on earth” – is a must-visit site. According to Klook, the Tiger Cages, Phu Hai solitary confinement, and Phu Son are places that help visitors better understand the nation’s heroic yet sorrowful past.
In the evenings, Hang Duong Cemetery is a place many visit to pay respects to hero Vo Thi Sau. The solemn and serene atmosphere makes it a uniquely spiritual destination. Another site is Phi Yen Temple, described by Vietravel as a “sacred place tied to a sad yet humane historical tale.”
For those who love physical activities, the coastal road from the town center to Nhat Beach is an ideal route for sea views, photography, and enjoying the cool breeze. Tau Be Cape is also a highly-rated sunrise spot, with the first rays of sunlight breaking over the vast blue sea.
