On November 24th, the Gia Lai Provincial Police Investigation Agency initiated legal proceedings, pressed charges, and issued an arrest warrant for Nguyen Thi Hong Thao (born in 1985, residing in Pleiku Ward, Gia Lai Province) on charges of fraud and asset misappropriation.

Nguyen Thi Hong Thao (in red) listens as authorities read the arrest warrant.
According to preliminary investigations, Thao operated in the real estate sector in former Pleiku City, specializing in buying, selling, and constructing large houses for resale.
Thao crafted an image of a “female tycoon” owning numerous real estate projects, borrowing money from multiple individuals with promises of high-interest returns. She also used forged documents to substantiate her land transactions.
Many individuals trusted Thao and lent her money, with the total misappropriated amount reaching tens of billions of Vietnamese dong. By October 2025, news of Thao’s debt default of hundreds of billions of dong spread on social media, causing a stir in Pleiku.
The Gia Lai Provincial Police consider this a serious case and are collaborating with specialized units to expand the investigation and address related individuals. Thao has been charged under Clause 4, Article 174 of the Penal Code.
The Office of the Police Investigation Agency – Gia Lai Provincial Police has issued a notice urging any individuals or organizations affected by Thao’s actions to contact the police for further proceedings.
