Apple is refining its Spring 2026 lineup with three consumer-focused devices: the iPhone 17e, iPad Gen 12, and an all-new affordable MacBook starting at $699. This trio underscores Apple’s strategy to broaden its customer base with lower-cost offerings while maintaining its ecosystem’s core values.

According to analyst Jeff Pu, as cited by MacRumors, the iPhone 17e will succeed the iPhone 16e, Apple’s budget-friendly iPhone series. The new model is expected to feature an 18MP front camera with Center Stage support, significantly enhancing video calls and vlogging. Powered by the A19 chip and C1 modem, it promises improved performance and connectivity. Details on design, display, and launch date remain undisclosed.

The iPad Gen 12 is also in the pipeline, transitioning from the A16 Bionic to the A18 chip—a notable upgrade that bridges the performance gap with the iPad Air. This aligns with the growing demand for remote learning and work, where multitasking and content processing are essential.

The most anticipated is the affordable MacBook, potentially creating a new segment below the MacBook Air. Priced between $699 and $899, it achieves cost-efficiency through streamlined features: 8GB RAM, energy-efficient A18 Pro chip, a single USB-C port, and a recycled display design. New color options, such as pink and yellow, evoke the iconic iMac style.

This budget MacBook aims to counter the global PC demand slump and the shift of students toward affordable Windows laptops. It could help Apple expand its market share and attract new users.

While Jeff Pu did not mention the MacBook Air, Apple’s recent release patterns suggest the MacBook Air M5 is likely to debut in March 2026. The budget-friendly MacBook, iPad Gen 12, and iPhone 17e are expected to follow in the same launch window.

By expanding into mid-range and budget segments, Apple aims to draw new users into its ecosystem, bolstering services like iCloud, TV+, and Arcade, while directly competing with Samsung, Lenovo, and ASUS. However, the question remains whether these lower-cost devices will impact the appeal of Apple’s premium offerings, its primary profit drivers. The answer will become clearer once the 2026 lineup is unveiled.
