Gold Crackdown in HCMC: Three Jewelry Businesses Fined, Over 54 Grams of Gold Seized

On November 24, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department (MMD) released details about the month-long intensified campaign to combat smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and intellectual property violations led by Team 14 of the Market Management Department in their designated area.

Specifically, from October 17 to November 17, Team 14 inspected 17 cases, imposing fines totaling nearly 400 million VND, which were remitted to the state budget. They also confiscated 9,858 units of goods with unclear origins, valued at over 389 million VND. These items included fabrics, clothing, household goods, bicycle parts, phone chargers, and gold jewelry.

Additionally, the team seized 220 units of counterfeit goods worth over 15 million VND, primarily consisting of charging cups and fabrics.

Notably, on November 11, Team 14 divided into three inspection groups to simultaneously check three gold trading businesses in Phu Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City. During the inspection, authorities temporarily seized 54.217 grams of gold jewelry valued at nearly 130 million VND.

After review, the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department issued a decision to fine the businesses a total of 210 million VND and confiscate all the violating gold items.

During the peak month, Team 14 also inspected six business and storage locations for fabrics in Tay Thanh and Phu Tho Hoa Wards. These locations were fined a total of 99 million VND for trading counterfeit goods, goods with unclear origins, and operating without a business registration certificate. Authorities also confiscated 5.4 tons of various fabrics and ordered the destruction of 190 kg of counterfeit fabrics.
