New Developments in Hanoi: Over 10 Hectares of Resettlement Land Finalized, Anticipated Western Route and Bridge Project Gains Momentum

The Hanoi People’s Committee has recently issued a document outlining the allocation of resettlement land to support the construction of the Tay Thang Long Road (from Pham Van Dong to Van Tien Dung Road) and the Thuong Cat Bridge, along with the connecting roads at both ends of the bridge.

Land allocation for resettlement in the Tay Thang Long Road Construction Investment Project (from Pham Van Dong to Van Tien Dung Road) includes: nearly 1.5 hectares in Dong Ngac Ward, over 2.5 hectares in Phu Dien Ward, more than 2 hectares in Tay Tuu Ward, and 4.35 hectares in Thuong Cat Ward.

The Thuong Cat Bridge Project will utilize the 4.35-hectare area in Thuong Cat Ward (overlapping with the land allocated for the Tay Thang Long Road project) to resettle residents affected by the project.

The Hanoi People’s Committee emphasizes that resettlement arrangements must adhere to principles ensuring compliance with project timelines and align with the approval schedule for compensation, support, and resettlement plans by the People’s Committees of Dong Ngac and Thuong Cat Wards.

The People’s Committees of Thuong Cat, Tay Tuu, Dong Ngac, and Phu Dien Wards are tasked with urgently reviewing, adjusting investment objectives, completing land clearance, and developing technical infrastructure for the designated areas. They must also collaborate with the Department of Planning and Architecture and relevant units to reallocate land designated for greenery and parking to residential resettlement, ensuring compliance with planning and legal regulations.

Securing resettlement land is crucial for the implementation of these two key transportation projects. Upon completion, the Tay Thang Long Road will serve as a new backbone connecting the northwestern region of Hanoi, alleviating congestion on Pham Van Dong, Ring Road 3, and National Highway 32.

The Thuong Cat Bridge, along with its connecting roads, will entirely replace the existing Thuong Cat ferry, eliminating a critical traffic bottleneck on the Red River and driving robust development in districts such as Bac Tu Liem, Dong Anh, and Me Linh.

In 2019, Hanoi commenced the Tay Thang Long Road Construction Project (from Pham Van Dong to Van Tien Dung Road), with a total investment of nearly VND 1.5 trillion. However, the project has only reached approximately 50% completion due to land clearance issues, leading to prolonged construction halts.

According to the plan, the road will span approximately 3.2 km, with a cross-section width of 60.5 meters and 10 lanes, passing through Co Nhue 2 and Minh Khai Wards. A bridge over the Nhue River will also be constructed along the route.

Currently, several real estate projects by major developers line the 33 km-long Tay Thang Long Avenue, which features a 60.5-meter cross-section and 10 lanes. Notably, Vinhomes Wonder City (Vinhomes Dan Phuong) by Vingroup stands out for its scale.

Meanwhile, the Thuong Cat Bridge and its connecting roads, which broke ground on October 10, span a total length of 5.226 km, including a 780-meter main bridge, 3.125 km of approach bridges, and 1.321 km of connecting roads. The total investment exceeds VND 7.3 trillion, funded by the city’s budget.

The bridge is designed with 8 lanes (6 for motorized vehicles and 2 for non-motorized vehicles), and the main bridge has a width of 35 meters. The project begins at the intersection with Ky Vu Road in Thuong Cat Ward and ends at the intersection with Road 23B in Thien Loc Commune.

The construction of the Thuong Cat Bridge will enhance the connectivity and continuity of the Ring Road 3.5 from the south to the north of the Red River, adding new connections in the western and southwestern areas of the capital. It will also link northern and southern districts of the Red River, fostering integration with key arterial roads in the capital.

Additionally, the bridge will stimulate economic potential and increase property values in the areas it serves, promoting socio-economic development and strengthening security and defense in districts such as Bac Tu Liem, Dong Anh, Me Linh, Thanh Tri, Ha Dong, and Hoai Duc, as well as the broader Hanoi region.
