Traffic Police Department Detects 66 Traffic Violations via AI Cameras

In a recent announcement on November 24th, the Traffic Police Department revealed a list of 66 traffic violations captured by their AI camera system. The violations include motorcyclists not wearing helmets, running red lights, and failing to wear seatbelts.

Specifically, between 12:00 PM on November 22nd and 12:00 PM on November 23rd, the AI camera at km20 on the Noi Bai – Lao Cai highway recorded 15,910 vehicles passing through, with an average speed of 77.5 km/h. During this period, the camera detected 8 instances of drivers not wearing seatbelts, and these cases have been reported to the vehicle owners for further action.

Additionally, data extracted from AI cameras installed at the intersection of Pham Van Bach and Hoang Quan Chi streets in Hanoi’s inner city revealed 12 cases of motorcyclists not wearing helmets. The department also identified 45 instances of red-light running.

These violations have been forwarded to the Hanoi City Police and relevant authorities for processing.

What Are the Penalties for These Violations Under Decree 168?

According to points h and i, clause 2, Article 7 of Decree 168/2024/NĐ-CP, effective from January 1, 2025, motorcyclists and drivers of similar vehicles who commit the following violations will face fines ranging from 400,000 to 600,000 VND:

h) Not wearing a helmet or wearing a helmet without fastening the chin strap properly while driving on public roads;

i) Carrying passengers who are not wearing helmets or wearing helmets without fastening the chin strap properly, except in cases of emergency medical transport, children under 6 years old, or when escorting individuals who have violated the law.

Under point c, clause 7, Article 7 of Decree 168, motorcyclists and drivers of similar vehicles who fail to obey traffic light signals will be fined between 4 and 6 million VND. Additionally, they will lose 4 points on their driver’s license, as per point b, clause 13, Article 7.

According to point b, clause 10, Article 7 of Decree 168, motorcyclists and drivers of similar vehicles who disregard traffic light signals and cause accidents will face fines ranging from 10 to 14 million VND. They will also lose 10 points on their driver’s license.

Furthermore, based on points k and l, clause 3, Article 6 of Decree 168, drivers of cars, four-wheeled passenger vehicles, four-wheeled cargo vehicles, and similar vehicles will be fined between 800,000 and 1,000,000 VND for the following violations:

k) Not wearing a seatbelt while driving;

l) Carrying passengers in a car without wearing seatbelts (at positions equipped with seatbelts) while the vehicle is in motion.

Decree 168 also imposes penalties on passengers in cars who fail to wear seatbelts. According to clause 4, Article 12, passengers in cars who do not wear seatbelts (at positions equipped with seatbelts) while the vehicle is in motion will be fined between 350,000 and 400,000 VND.
