Why Was the Galaxy A7x Discontinued?
Once a staple in the upper mid-range segment, the Galaxy A7x series was abruptly discontinued in 2022, with the Galaxy A73 marking its final release.
Priced above $500 (approximately $15 million VND), the Galaxy A7x series long bridged the gap between Samsung’s mid-range and flagship models, offering users a high-performance option at a reasonable price.
The discontinuation left users with limited choices: either settle for the less powerful Galaxy A5x series or spend significantly more on a Galaxy S model.
Recently, rumors of the Galaxy A77 launching in 2026 have sparked excitement, suggesting a potential revival of the series.
Leaker Abhishek discovered a Samsung device with the model number SM-A776B on Geekbench, speculated to be the Galaxy A77. Notably, the device is rumored to feature the Exynos 2400 SoC, the same chipset powering the Galaxy S25 FE. Despite a slight clock speed reduction, it retains a 10-core CPU and Adreno 940 GPU.
The alleged device scored 1,673 in single-core and 5,597 in multi-core tests. While these scores are on the lower end of flagship performance, they indicate a robust device, nearly on par with the current FE model. Like its predecessors, the A77 is expected to differentiate itself with superior camera capabilities and design compared to lower mid-range Samsung models.
Samsung’s potential revival of the A7x series is speculated to fill the price gap between the Galaxy A56 (starting at $500) and the Galaxy S25 FE (starting at $650). If launched, the Galaxy A77 could be priced between $550 and $600. Alternatively, it may serve as a more affordable option if the Fan Edition series underperforms, helping Samsung expand its market share.
Is the Galaxy A77 Real?
The excitement was short-lived. Despite no official statement from Samsung, the Geekbench listing for the “Galaxy A77” was recently debunked as a fake. The SM-A776B is not a new Samsung device in development. Instead, someone used a rooted Galaxy S24 FE, modified its CPU configuration, and made it appear on benchmarking databases as an unreleased model with a 10-core Exynos processor.
It seems Samsung has no plans to revive the Galaxy A77, and the A7x series remains discontinued.
Industry experts argue that not reviving the A7x series is a logical decision, given Samsung’s evolving product strategy.
Galaxy S25 FE.
Samsung has streamlined its lineup in recent years by merging the Galaxy A and Galaxy M series to reduce overlap. Reintroducing the A7x would unnecessarily compete with the popular A5x models, which already dominate the mid-range segment.
Additionally, the upper mid-range niche once occupied by the A7x has been overshadowed by affordable flagships like the Galaxy S FE. These devices offer premium features at reasonable prices, significantly shrinking the market for a “super mid-range” like the A7x. Samsung is unlikely to risk cannibalizing its flagship sales.
Creating a high-spec A7x device with a large AMOLED display, top-tier camera, and premium design would drive up costs. In the mid-range segment, consumers are highly price-sensitive. Increasing the price or compromising on quality would both be detrimental.
Today’s consumers have clear preferences: either affordable models (A3x, A5x) or high-end devices. The “in-between” segment is fading as buyers are willing to pay more for flagships or save with cheaper options.
Samsung will continue to rely on the Galaxy A5x series to lead the mid-range market. The upcoming Galaxy A57 will be the flagship model in the 2026 A-series refresh. Instead of expanding mid-range offerings, Samsung is focusing on its flagship lineup, with five Galaxy S and three Galaxy Z models launching this year, alongside new tech like smart glasses planned for 2026.
