On November 25th, Mr. Nguyen Duy Hien (64 years old; residing in Phu Phung commune, Vinh Long province), shared: “I recently harvested approximately 500 kg of Duy Hien DH1 durian from 5 trees and sold it to traders at 700,000 VND/kg. Over the past few days, traders have been asking to buy more, but my orchard is out of fruit until the new season in April next year.”

A trader revealed that this durian variety commands such a high price due to its superior qualities compared to other durians on the market. Notably, the fruit has an attractive round shape. When ripe, the durian flesh is a vibrant yellow, with over 90% seedless segments, thin skin, smooth texture, and a dry, fiberless consistency, notably rich and creamy.

The ripe fruit becomes chewier over time, never turning bitter, mushy, or dry, even during the rainy season. After cutting, the fruit ripens naturally within 3-4 days without the need for preservatives.

Mr. Hien also shared that 8 years ago, during a trip abroad, he tasted a uniquely flavored durian and purchased 4 saplings to grow at home. After 5 years, the trees bore fruit, and he shared it with family and neighbors, receiving unanimous praise for its superior taste compared to other durians. This inspired him to propagate the variety, planting 300 trees in his orchard.

In 2024, this variety was officially certified as a purebred by the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ben Tre Province (formerly), recognizing its quality and development potential.

Up to 90% seedless segments

Mr. Hien stated: “I named this durian variety Duy Hien DH1. The trees bear fruit just 3.5 to 4 years after planting, flower easily, and produce high yields. On average, I harvest about 25 fruits per tree, weighing between 2.2 and 4 kg each.”
